A man in an inebriated condition reportedly stole an APSRTC bus from Kadiri in Sri Sathya Sai district and drove it all the way to Madanapalle in Annamayya district, covering a distance of 80 kilometres. This resulted in a police chase that ended several hours later on Saturday.
According to the Madanapalle Urban police, the accused, Siva Prasad (45), of Anantapur, reportedly arrived at the Kadiri RTC bus stand late on Friday night, intending to travel to Madanapalle. As there was no bus available at midnight, he found an APSRTC bus parked near the Government Girls High School, opposite the bus stand, without its driver. He boarded the vehicle and drove away.
The bus reached Madanapalle RTC bus stand in the early hours of Saturday. After a frantic search, the police located the bus based on technical clues gathered during the investigation. During questioning, Siva Prasad reportedly admitted that he had driven the bus away from Kadiri without permission.
Madanapalle police immediately alerted the Kadiri RTC depot officials, to whom the bus was later handed over on Sunday. A case was registered against the accused.
