Fans go crazy as Urvil Patel’s explosive knock storms CSK to an emphatic win against LSG in IPL 2026

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continues to produce high-octane drama, and the 53rd match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium was no exception. In a high-scoring Sunday night thriller on May 10, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chased down a formidable target of 204 to defeat the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets. While the Yellow Army is known for its tactical prowess, this victory was defined by sheer raw power, anchored by a career-defining performance from Urvil Patel.

Disciplined CSK bowling holds LSG to a par score

Winning the toss and electing to field, CSK faced an initial onslaught from LSG’s openers. Josh Inglis was in a destructive mood, smashing a 17-ball half-century and eventually finishing with a whirlwind 85 off 33 balls, decorated with 5 boundaries and 10 towering sixes. At 91/1 after the Powerplay, LSG looked poised for a total well north of 230.

However, the CSK bowling unit, led by the tactical changes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, clawed back into the contest. Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/36, including the crucial scalp of Rishabh Pant (15). While Inglis provided the fire, the middle order struggled to maintain the tempo. Aiden Markram (6) fell to a sharp piece of fielding by Dewald Brevis, and Nicholas Pooran (13) was outfoxed by Noor Ahmad, who delivered a clinical spell of 1/24 in his four overs.

A late surge by Shahbaz Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 43 off 25 deliveries, pushed the Lucknow total to 203/8. Despite the high score, the disciplined death bowling by Anshul Kamboj (2/47) and Mukesh Choudhary ensured that the target remained within the realms of possibility on a true Chepauk surface.

Urvil Patel’s batting masterclass helps CSK to thrilling win against LSG

The chase began with intent as Sanju Samson took the attack to the LSG bowlers, scoring a brisk 28 off 14 balls. However, the night belonged to Patel. Coming in at number three, Patel played an innings that will be talked about for years. He reached his half-century in just 13 balls, equaling records and leaving the LSG bowlers shell-shocked.

Patel’s masterclass of 65 runs from a mere 23 balls included 8 sixes and 2 boundaries, striking at a staggering 282.60. His partnership with skipper Gaikwad (42 off 28) dismantled the LSG strategy, bringing the 100-run mark up in just 6.2 overs.

The match saw a slight wobble when Shahbaz removed both Patel and Gaikwad, followed by a double strike that left CSK at 169/5. With the pressure mounting, the experienced Shivam Dube (15 off 7) and Impact Player Prashant Veer (17 off 12) showed nerves of steel. Veer’s composed boundary-hitting in the final overs ensured CSK reached 208/5 with 4 balls to spare.

The Chepauk crowd erupted as CSK secured two vital points, moving them up the table in a season that is proving to be one of the most competitive in IPL history. For LSG, despite the heroics of Inglis was a case of ‘so near yet so far’ against a clinical Chennai outfit.
