
Fire broke out in a portion of a textile shop on Gandhi Road near the bus terminus in Arakkonam town in Ranipet on Thursday.

A portion of a textile shop on Gandhi Road near bus terminus in Arakkonam town in Ranipet was gutted after s fire broke out in the facility on Thursday.
Police said that it was around 9 a.m. when a few workers who opened the outlet noticed thick smoke billowing out of the electrical box in the shop, which was run by Mohammed Iqbal, 53, a resident of Arakkonam. Immediately, they tried to douse the fire but it spread to the entire electrical unit in the shop.
On being alerted, fire fighters from Arakkonam town rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Stocks and goods worth around ₹25 lakh in the shop were saved, according to sources.
A case was registered. Police said that an electrical short circuit could have been the reason for the fire. A probe is under way.
