Forget 252! West Indies Teams Scored 473 Runs in Just 37.4 Overs on October 9, 2026

If you are a West Indies cricket fan, remember the date October 9, 2026. It was one of those special days when Caribbean batters reminded the cricketing world just how destructive they can be.

West Indies players took full advantage of the opposition bowlers wherever they played that day. First, the West Indies men’s team pulled off a historic run chase against India in Ranchi. Later, West Indies Champions produced another remarkable chase against Bangladesh Champions in Sharjah.

And when we combine the performances of both teams, the numbers are almost unbelievable.

Two West Indies teams scored a combined 473 runs in just 37.4 overs, losing only nine wickets in the process.

Both teams successfully chased targets exceeding 200 runs on the same day, making October 9 a particularly memorable date for Caribbean cricket fans.

West Indies Cricket Historic Day: Shai Hope and Rutherford Destroy India

The first extraordinary performance came in Ranchi, where India posted a massive 249/5 in 20 overs in the second T20I.

Chasing 250 runs against India was never going to be easy, especially after West Indies lost three wickets with just 58 runs on the board.

However, Sherfane Rutherford and captain Shai Hope had other plans.

Rutherford launched a brutal attack on the Indian bowling unit, smashing 84 runs off just 37 deliveries, including seven fours and seven sixes. His innings completely changed the direction of the match.

Then came captain Shai Hope’s remarkable performance.

Hope remained unbeaten on 102 off just 45 deliveries, hitting six fours and nine sixes at an extraordinary strike rate of 226.67.

The pair added 120 runs for the fourth wicket and put India under enormous pressure. Romario Shepherd also contributed an unbeaten 34 off 13 balls.

West Indies eventually reached 252/4 in just 18.3 overs, registering their highest successful run chase in T20 international cricket and defeating India by six wickets.

It was the kind of performance that Caribbean cricket fans will remember for years.

Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton Continue the Caribbean Dominance

If you thought West Indies’ historic chase against India was the end of the story, you were wrong.

The Caribbean batting domination continued in the World Championship of Legends, where West Indies Champions faced Bangladesh Champions in Sharjah.

Bangladesh Champions had posted a formidable 218/4 in their 20 overs, leaving West Indies Champions with a target of 219.

But once again, Caribbean batters made a mockery of a massive total.

The Universe Boss, Chris Gayle, gave his team a flying start, smashing 56 runs off just 25 deliveries. His innings included six fours and four sixes, coming at a strike rate of 224.

However, Chadwick Walton was the biggest star of the chase.

Walton played an outstanding unbeaten knock of 90 off just 43 deliveries, hitting five fours and eight sixes. His strike rate of 209.30 showed how aggressively he dominated the Bangladesh Champions bowling attack.

With Walton leading the charge, West Indies Champions reached 221/5 in just 19.1 overs and registered a five-wicket victory.

Walton finished the contest in style by smashing Mahmudullah for a six off the first delivery of the final over.

473 Runs in Just 37.4 Overs: The Numbers Tell the Story

What makes October 9, 2026, so special is not just the two victories but the extraordinary numbers produced by the two Caribbean teams.

Match Runs Overs Wickets
West Indies vs India 252 18.3 4
WI Champions vs Bangladesh Champions 221 19.1 5
Combined 473 37.4 9

Just imagine the level of batting dominance.

Across two different matches, involving two different West Indies teams, Caribbean batters scored 473 runs from only 226 legal deliveries.

That is a combined scoring rate of approximately 12.56 runs per over.

Even more interestingly, neither team was bowled out. They lost only nine wickets between them while successfully chasing two massive targets.

Four players were particularly responsible for this extraordinary day.

Player Runs (Balls) Strike rate
Shai Hope 102* (45) 226.67
Chadwick Walton 90* (43) 209.30
Sherfane Rutherford 84 (37) 227.03
Chris Gayle 56 (25) 224.00
Combined 332 (150) 221.33

These four batters alone scored 332 runs off just 150 deliveries, showing the remarkable hitting power displayed by Caribbean players throughout the day.
