England captain Harry Brook produced a sensational batting performance against Sri Lanka in the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2026, smashing the fastest double century in men’s One-Day International cricket history. The right-hander reached the 200-run mark in just 114 balls at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, October 22, breaking the record previously held by India’s Shubman Gill.
Brook eventually scored 202 off 116 deliveries, including 21 fours and 10 sixes, powering England to a massive total of 429/4 in 50 overs. His extraordinary innings not only put England in a commanding position but also established him as the first English batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket.
Harry Brook surpasses Shubman Gill’s world record
Before Brook’s remarkable knock, Gill held the record for the fastest double century in men’s ODI cricket. The Indian batter had reached the landmark in 117 deliveries against the West Indies in Guwahati in September 2026, scoring an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls.
Brook went three balls quicker, reaching 200 in 114 deliveries and setting a new benchmark in the format.
Ishan Kishan previously held the record after scoring a double century off 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell followed with his unforgettable 201 not out from 128 balls against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Brook becomes England’s first ODI double centurion
Brook’s innings was historic for English cricket as well. Before this match, Ben Stokes held England’s highest individual ODI score with an unbeaten 182 against New Zealand in 2023.
The England captain surpassed that mark during his explosive innings, becoming the country’s first men’s ODI double centurion and establishing a new national record for the highest individual score in the format.
What made the knock particularly impressive was Brook’s ability to combine calculated batting with extraordinary acceleration. He initially took time to settle at the crease before shifting gears and putting the Sri Lankan bowlers under relentless pressure.
Brook’s 21 fours and 10 sixes showcased his range of strokes, with the England skipper finding scoring opportunities all around the ground.

Joe Root and Will Jacks support Brook’s onslaught
While Brook dominated the headlines, England’s supporting batters played important roles in building the massive total.
Joe Root contributed a composed 69 off 66 deliveries, helping Brook establish a substantial partnership during the middle overs. Root’s innings provided stability before England accelerated dramatically towards the end.
Will Jacks then joined Brook to unleash a late assault on the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Jacks remained unbeaten on 66 off just 30 balls, striking eight fours and three sixes.
The pair added 185 runs in only 79 deliveries for the fourth wicket, turning an already strong innings into a formidable total.
England collected 156 runs in the final 10 overs, finishing at 429/4. It was a devastating finish that left Sri Lanka with a daunting chase.
