Jason Holder delighted after match-winning show, bags POTM in GT vs RCB

In match no.42, it was a low-scoring thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where the Gujarat Titans (GT) faced the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Titans were home by four wickets with 25 balls to spare while chasing a target of 156 runs.

GT took their revenge on RCB, who defeated them in the last fixture. Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first. The two teams came with an unchanged playing XI. The fans came in large numbers to support their favourite side on the night, and they enjoyed every bit of the game.

Devdutt Padikkal fights for RCB

After being put into bat first, RCB opener Jacob Bethell was back in the pavilion for a low score of 5 runs. Virat Kohli looked in good touch from the very first ball, as he smacked 5 fours off Kagiso Rabada’s first over; however, the South Africa pacer had his man while bowling in his second over as Kohli was back after scoring 28 off 13.

Then Devdutt Padikkal played a knock of 40 runs as he was the leading run getter for the side in the match, as the collapse of 18/4 in the middle overs sent RCB on the back foot. Some finishing touches from Bhuvi and Venkatesh Iyer helped the defending champions go past the 150-run mark as they were bowled out for 155. Jason Holder picked up two wickets in the match.

Rahul Tewatia seals the game for GT

While chasing, Sai Sudharsan failed to trouble the bowlers, went back for 6 runs, though Shubman Gill was off to a breezy start as he played a fiery knock of 43 off 18 balls, and then Jos Buttler, scoring 39 off 19 balls, helped GT to keep the current run rate up to the required one.

Though there were wickets at regular intervals and the match was turning in favour of RCB, a good 27 off 17 balls from Rahul Tewatia sealed the game for the Titans as they chased down the target with 25 balls to spare. The Southpaw was unbeaten towards the end.

Happy things how went for me personally- Jason Holder

Jason Holder received the player of the match for his excellent all-round performance in the game, where he picked two wickets and took three catches in the match, and also contributed 12 runs towards the business end, helping to earn two points for his side.

After winning the POTM, Jason Holder said, “Happy things how went for me personally. Felt our energy was good from the start. After the first couple of overs, everyone was a little edgy but credit to KG (for turning it around).”

Jason Holder on Rajat Patidar’s catch, “I did see him (Rabada), was just hoping to not run into him. He was in my peripheral but he was far enough for me to put in an attempt (to catch it). (On ball following him) I welcome it as it comes. Just happy to hold on to the chances. Happy to contribute and to get over the line.”

“The way this franchise approaches, you have to stay sharp. More or less about coming in when needed, and delivering.”
