Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) missed a golden opportunity to dismiss the Delhi Capitals (DC) opener, Abhishek Porel. Tejasvi Dahiya, who is playing tonight as the keeper-batter in place of injured Angkrish Raghuvanshi, missed a dolly.
Kartik Tyagi was absolutely furious to see the ball popping out of the keeper’s gloves. It would be a great comeback for Tyagi as he conceded two consecutive 4s in the first two balls of the 4th over of the first innings at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Tejasvi Dahiya did everything right except taking the catch
On the third ball, Tejasvi Dahiya dropped the catch. Kartik Tyagi hit a good length area with pace and generated some extra bounce as well. Left knee down, the left-handed batter swung his bat to hit the ball on the offside, but produced a thick outside edge.
Dahiya moved slightly on his left side to take the catch. His hands were on the line of the ball, but he was not able to pouch it. Abishek Porel got an extra lifeline.
A dead rubber at the Eden Gardens
The Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals match has now turned into a dead rubber as soon as the Rajasthan Royals emerged as the winner in Mumbai. Rajasthan defeated the Mumbai Indians by 30 runs and confirmed their spot in the play-offs with 16 points.
If KKR needed to see the Mumbai Indians as the winner today. Delhi Capitals is already out of the title race, and now KKR is also crashing out. The Knight Riders have 13 points currently. If they manage to defeat Delhi, then they will have 15 points, one point shorter than the Rajasthan Royals.
When the KKR vs DC match started, the MI vs RR match was rolling at Wankhede Stadium. At the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane stated that the situation was full of uncertainty for them.
“We know the scenario depending on what’s going to happen in the previous game, which is happening right now. But regardless of that, we don’t know what the result will be. Also, the wicket looks really good. So yes, it’s very simple. It’s still a game of cricket to be played, and the last six games have been fantastic for us,” Ajinkya Rahane said.
Tejasvi Dahiya rectified his mistake soon
Now, the scenario is clear for them. Even a win against the Delhi Capitals will not take them into the play-offs.
Talking back about the KKR vs DC match, Abishek Porel’s knock came to an end soon, after a missed catch. This time, Tejasvi Dahiya did not make any mistakes. On the fifth over, against the emerging pacer Saurabh Dubey, Porel produced an outside edge.
The southpaw tried to guide the outside off delivery towards the off side down the ground, but failed to make the right connection. Tejasvi Dahiya took a simple catch behind the stumps. Porel departed, scoring 22 off 18.
