A sudden silence fell across the cricket world Wednesday when Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away in Chandigarh at just 36. Details surrounding his passing remain unclear so far. Once bowling alongside Virat Kohli in the India U-19 setup, he represented Punjab in six first-class games, claiming 11 wickets with steady rhythm. That early IPL journey? He wore the Kings XI Punjab jersey during its debut edition. Later years saw him guiding talent, sitting within Punjab’s senior selection panel. Though quiet now, his presence once shaped many pitches and plans.
“Punjab Cricket Association deeply mourns the sad demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill, former Punjab cricketer and member, Senior Selection Committee, Punjab,” the Punjab Cricket Association announced on X.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this difficult time.”
Two-time World Cup-winning India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to Gill.
“Deeply saddened to hear about Amanpreet Singh Gill’s passing. I shared the dressing room with him in our early days; he was a quiet, hardworking cricketer who loved the game. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace. Om Shanti,” Singh posted on X.

Later on, it was a former Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thisara Perera, whose wicket fell to him.
Still, he missed out on joining the India U-19 team under Virat Kohli, which later claimed the 2008 World Cup title.
