Mitchell Marsh thrilled after leading LSG to massive victory over CSK in IPL 2026

The match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana International Cricket Stadium was a must-win for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to save their pride. At the same time, for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it was a must-win to stay relevant in the play-off contention.

At the home ground, LSG, bowlers perform well against the in-form CSK batters. Akash Singh, the seamer who played his first match in IPL 2026, took the spotlight in the first innings. The left-arm seamer single-handedly demolished the star-studded top order of the Chennai Super Kings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Urvil Patel were the batters who lost their scalps against the Rajasthan-born pacer. CSK fought back through their middle-order batters, in the form of Kartik Sharma and Shivam Dube.

Kartik made a brilliant 71-run innings from 42 balls, and Shivam remained not out for 32 off 16. In 20 overs, CSK managed to register a competitive total of 187 runs in exchange for 5 wickets.

The turning point of the match was the 90-run knock by Mitchell Marsh. The LSG opener single-handedly took the momentum completely away from the Chennai Super Kings. With nine 4s and seven 6s, and a strike rate of 236.84, he got 90 runs from 38 balls only.

Marsh-storm took CSK’s hopes for a ride

After the marathon innings by Mitchell Marsh, the bowlers in Yellow left with very little place to make a comeback. Nicholas Pooran did the rest of the job with the bad for the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG won the match by 7 wickets and 20 balls to spare.

After the match, Mitchell Marsh shared these thoughts on the win and his individual knock. At the presentation ceremony, the Australian batter stated that they have a very dynamic squad, a good, well-balanced group with experienced and emerging players. The win is like a reward for him and for the team.

“Yeah, look, it’s obviously nice to get a win. That’s been far and few for us this year. As a group, we’ve stuck together, and it’s really nice to get a little reward tonight. We’ve got great people in this group. Some great young kids.”

“And we know that we haven’t got it right on the field at times, but it’s still a great group to be around. And I think sometimes when things aren’t going well, that’s when it’s the group that we have. So it’s just really nice to get a win tonight,” Mitchell Marsh said.

For his brilliant individual display, Mitchell Marsh mentioned the early support he offered by his opening partner, Josh Inglis. After the first few overs inside the powerplay, they got accustomed to the nature of the pitch, which made his task easy to score runs.

Mitchell Marsh explains the factors behind his explosive innings vs CSK

“He (Josh Inglis) certainly feels like he takes the pressure off me with the way he goes about it. And we’ve obviously kind of grown up together playing for Western Australia for the last probably eight years. So we know each other very well. It was a good partnership tonight,” Mash mentioned.

“I think having the experience, certainly the red soil wicket here now, I’ve sort of known that the first 2-3 overs can be hard work. And if you look back to the start of the tournament, we were two or three down in those periods, and we just weren’t able to get through.”

“And today we sort of, well, I thought about just backing the new power play as much as we could. And then it is a good wicket once you get going,” Mitchell Marsh added.
