Mohammed Shami is on song tonight against the Punjab Kings. In the very first ball of the innings, he took Priyansh Arya, and then, on the third over, he clipped Cooper Conolly’s wicket.
Shami again gets a wicket on the first ball of the first over. Against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, the experienced pacer took Priyansh Arya’s wicket.
Back-to-back blows for the Punjab Kings
Massive blow to the Punjab Kings, as they have lost one of their main attacking batters on the very first ball of the innings, and then the fall of Cooper Conolly. One after another blow for the Shreyas Iyer-led brigade, and they go down by two men inside the powerplay. Mohammed Shami gives the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) a major boost in the earliest stage of the innings. Arjun Tendulkar made no mistake in taking the catch.
Mohammad Shami now owns some exclusive stats because of his bowling. He is the only bowler in the Indian Premier League history who has taken 6 wickets off the first ball of an IPL innings.

Mohammed Shami clean bowled Cooper Connolly
Shami dismissed Cooper Connolly on the second ball of the third over; clean bowled. This time, the seam goes fuller on the off. Connolly stood firm and looked to hit the ball down the ground on the offside, but was beaten by the outside edge as the ball hit the off stump. Two wickets in two overs for Mohammed Shami. The Aussie batter was dismissed for 18 off 10. He was looking in good touch as he hit four 4s before losing the stumps.
Connolly claims a record in IPL
Before losing the guard, Cooper Connolly achieved a milestone in the ongoing Indian Premier League. In his debut IPL season, he claimed 491 runs, which is the second-highest after Mitchell Marsh. In 2008, when Marsh debuted in the league for Punjab, he secured 616 runs in total that season.
Another Punjab Kings batter, Priyansh Arya, is also in this list. In the previous season, the emerging batter registered 475 runs in a single season. Devdutt Padikkal and Shreyas Iyer are the other two batters who are in the leading position of the record tally.
Shreyas Iyer, currently Punjab Kings captain, accumulated 439 runs in his debut IPL season back in 2015, when he used to play for the Delhi Capitals.
