The situation between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani. PCB banned the seamer for 2 years from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he skipped PSL to join the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Muzarabani hit back by saying that there was no formal contract between him and the PSL franchise Islamabad United (IU). After the statement of Blessing Muzarabani, PCB replied back by stating that there was a verbal agreement between the two parties.
Was there any official contract between the team and the player?
Weeks after the 2-year ban imposed by the cricket board, the agent of the pacer claimed that Muzarabani did not receive any official contract from the PSL franchise. Without any official papers, how can someone breach a contract? The question has been raised. The agent called PCB’s step to ban his client for 2 years ‘incredibly excessive’.
Hours after the agent’s statement, PCB issued its version in support of the decision to ban the cricketer. According to media reports, PCB admitted that there were no official contracts between the cricketer and the franchise, but there was a verbal agreement, which Blessing Muzarabani failed to honour.
PCB confirmed that the franchise did not send any official letter to Blessing Muzarabani
According to a PTI report, sources in PCB claimed that the board’s clarification stated that, despite a firm offer and an unequivocal acceptance of key terms, the player chose to disregard those obligations in favour of a conflicting arrangement.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board admitted that no contract was ever sent to Blessing Muzarabani to play in the PSL but insisted that a firm verbal agreement was reached with the Zimbabwe pacer and he had breached the trust while joining the Indian Premier League,” according to the PTI report.
“The fast bowler’s agent, Rob Humphries tore into the PCB on Sunday in a social media post for the ban and claimed his client neither took part in the PSL players auction nor signed any contract with Islamabad United,” it further mentioned.
The agent of Blessing Muzarabani lashed out at Mohsin Naqvi, who led the Pakistan Cricket Board
The agent of the seamer, Rob Humphries, wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “We’ve remained quiet publicly over the last six weeks because we did not wish to create or cause animosity for the Pakistan Super League/Pakistan Cricket Board any more than they had already created for themselves.”
“[On] 13 February, Blessing [was] approached by Islamabad United about a playing opportunity for the 2026 PSL. The deal [was] agreed subject to obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket. An NOC cannot be obtained without a contract from the PSL. Islamabad United/PSL announced the signing to the world via social media,” the statement further reads.
Amid the war of words, at present, the main duty for the pacer is to pay attention to the performance of the IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders. The team just confirmed their first win in IPL 2026 last night against the Lucknow Super Giants. Muzarabani was not in the playing combination.
