Nicholas Pooran set to be retained for IPL 2027? Sanjiv Goenka drops big hint

Nicholas Pooran, the West Indian southpaw, finally broke the shackles of poor form in IPL 2026 when he smashed eight towering sixes on his route to a maiden half-century of the season, while striking at a whopping 300.

The Lucknow Super Giants have been struggling with a lack of form in IPL 2026, as a result of which they are now placed in the 10th position on the points table with just two wins after having played nine matches in the season.

Under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, the Super Giants have only been deteriorating within that points table. Despite having some stunning batting prowess, the LSG batters have struggled this season, especially the former West Indian star Nicholas Pooran.

LSG have kept faith in Nicholas Pooran, despite poor form

It was this power-packed LSG batting order that helped them last season, with Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram being the picks among the scorers. It was due to this reason that Rishabh Pant’s lack of form never seemed a concern for LSG last season.

However, Pooran has struggled this season, as he amassed just 82 runs in the first eight innings and was striking the ball with a strike rate below 80. This was the most awful season for the West Indian southpaw.

However, the Lucknow Super Giants have backed the cricketer this season. He has been promoted in the batting order on many occasions and was also sent in for the Super Over against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite immense backing, Pooran has repeatedly failed to deliver with the bat.

Nicholas Pooran strikes fearlessly against MI; LSG star returns to his very best

Nicholas Pooran was struggling with poor form, yet he was once again promoted in the batting order for LSG after they were off to a promising start with Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis opening the innings for them.

Pooran looked the older version of himself as he smashed eight sixes in the match and went on to score 63 runs off just 21 balls before being dismissed in Corbin Bosch’s first over. Batting with a strike rate of 300, he was seen at his very best.

His partnership alongside Mitchell Marsh was a massive help for the Lucknow Super Giants, who finally managed to put a massive score of 228 runs on the board after they were left in an all-win situation to fancy their chances of qualification.

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka hints at Nicholas Pooran’s retention in 2027

The Lucknow Super Giants owner, Sanjiv Goenka, is often known as one of the most interactive owners in the IPL. He is present during his team’s matches across all venues in India and has always been spotted interacting with the players, be it after wins or losses.

Dr. Goenka has always managed to impress the fans with the way he has been backing the Super Giants’ cricketers. After Pooran’s splendid innings against the Mumbai Indians, he has backed the batter’s true potential.

Following the tweet in which Goenka praised the southpaw, it has been believed that he might be retained in the next season as well, despite his unimpressive form and his massive price tag.
