Amidst the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is making a bigger plan to reward the strong performers like Shreyas Iyer.

With so many young players coming out of the IPL 2026 and performing without fear, the BCCI is reportedly planning to build two strong T20 teams. This idea is coming at the right time, as the India National Cricket Team is going to face a very tight international schedule.

One of the biggest developments in this plan is around captaincy. Shreyas Iyer is now being seen as the main choice to lead one of India’s T20I sides. Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy in the IPL and calm approach have impressed the national selectors most, and now he could be trusted with a bigger role.

Actually, the Asian Games and the T20I series between India and the West Indies are expected to happen at the same time. Because of this clash, it will not be possible to send the same set of players to both events. That is why the BCCI wants a strong backup ready.

So, they are now working on creating a pool of around 30 to 35 players who are fully prepared to play international cricket whenever needed. Since cricket is now set to return in the 2028 Olympics, the focus is on building depth and flexibility as they aim for players who can adjust quickly, travel, and perform under pressure without much preparation time.

India’s upcoming Ireland tour is likely to be the first step for the BCCI to test this idea, which is expected to continue till the Asian Games, giving enough time to build a strong bench. The Afghanistan series will also offer the selectors the opportunity to try different players from this extended pool.

A BCCI official was quoted as saying by NDTV: “The Asian Games and the India vs West Indies T20 Series are going to be at the same time. So, we have to look at two T20 teams playing. It is important from now on to have a pool of 30-35 cricketers who can be called up for international assignments. For the upcoming Ireland tour, like most tours to the UK, a bigger pool of players will be kept in the squad. This will extend for the Asian Games.”

IPL 2026 stars under close watch as they set to be picked in extended India squad

The impact of the IPL 2026 is clearly visible as the young batters like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Priyansh Arya, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have impressed everyone with their attacking style. They are fearless and are now part of this plan.

Along with them, players like Rajat Patidar and Ayush Badoni are also in the mix and being closely watched. In the all-rounder department, players like Shashank Singh and Anukul Roy are being seen as strong options because they can contribute with both bat and ball.

धनबाद जिले के बरवाअड्डा थाना क्षेत्र के भेला टांड स्थित हथिया तालाब से एक अज्ञात व्यक्ति का शव बरामद हुआ। रविवार देर रात तालाब में शव मिलने की खबर फैलते ही आसपास के ग्रामीणों की भारी भीड़ मौके पर जुट गई। स्थानीय लोगों ने तालाब में एक शव तैरता हुआ देखा, जिसके बाद इलाके में हड़कंप मच गया। देखते ही देखते बड़ी संख्या में लोग घटनास्थल पर पहुंच गए। पुलिस ने गोताखोरों की मदद से निकाला सूचना मिलते ही बरवाअड्डा थाना की पुलिस टीम तत्काल मौके पर पहुंची और स्थिति का जायजा लिया। पुलिस ने स्थानीय गोताखोरों की मदद से शव को तालाब से बाहर निकलवाया। घटनास्थल पर मौजूद स्थानीय निवासी अमन कुमार ने बताया कि उन्हें ग्रामीणों से सूचना मिली थी कि किसी व्यक्ति का शव तालाब में फेंका गया है। जब वे वहां पहुंचे तो देखा कि शव पानी में तैर रहा था। उन्होंने तुरंत इसकी जानकारी पुलिस को दी। पुलिस ने मौके पर आवश्यक कार्रवाई करते हुए शव को कब्जे में लिया। पोस्टमॉर्टम के बाद खुलेगा राज, जांच जारी मामले को लेकर एसआई लालजीत उरांव ने बताया कि फिलहाल शव की पहचान नहीं हो पाई है। शव को पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेज दिया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह स्पष्ट नहीं है कि मामला हत्या का है या कोई हादसा, इसलिए पुलिस सभी पहलुओं को ध्यान में रखते हुए जांच कर रही है। आसपास के इलाकों में भी पूछताछ की जा रही है ताकि मृतक की पहचान हो सके।

Why Ajit Doval Is In Saudi Arabia Amid West Asia Conflict

India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is in Saudi Arabia as tensions across West Asia rise. The visit comes at a time when disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns over global oil supplies.

On Sunday, Doval was received in Riyadh by Saudi Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Saud Al-Sati, a former envoy to India. He later met Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman, Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Adviser Musaed Al-Aiban.

His visit is seen as a strategic move to safeguard India’s energy security. “During the meetings, they discussed bilateral relations, regional situation and other issues of mutual interest,” said the Indian embassy in Riyadh.

“Farhan and Doval reviewed areas of cooperation and discussed the latest regional developments,” reported the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

Officials said the talks focused on understanding how the situation in West Asia is changing and what it could mean going forward.

India is actively reaching out to major oil-supplying countries due to the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Nearly 40% of India’s oil comes via the Gulf countries and if the flow is affected, it can lead to higher fuel prices and supply issues.

Doval’s visit comes at a time when there is a possibility of fresh talks between the US and Iran to calm the ongoing West Asia conflict. Earlier this month, both countries held a first round of discussions in Pakistan on April 11 and 12. Now, there are reports that a second round of talks may happen soon.

Global oil prices went up sharply on Monday after the United States seized an Iranian ship after President Donald Trump claimed that the vessel failed to respond to a warning to stop. 

The international benchmark, Brent crude, moved close to the $100 per barrel mark, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) also saw a strong jump.

“After Touska’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings over six hours, Spruance directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room. Spruance disabled Touska’s propulsion by firing several rounds from the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 gun into Touska’s engine room,” said the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was baffled by Riyan Parag’s choice of not handing Ravindra Jadeja a chance to finish his spell despite his possible brilliance in the first three overs of his spell. He has also accused Parag of poor captaincy, as he trusted statistics more than his players.

Rajasthan Royals had an unbeaten streak to start the IPL 2026; however, Riyan Parag’s dubious captaincy has seemingly landed them in a fix, as the team has now faced two consecutive defeats. However, there remained one common factor across the two games, that Parag mishandled veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, limiting his role with the ball.

In the last two games, Jadeja was not given the ball against left-handers, considering the usual notion that they are thrashed for big sixes. However, not bowling Jadeja his full quota of overs in the last game has left former RR spinner Ravichandran Ashwin baffled, and he has turned to hurting Parag with his relentless rants.

The Rajasthan Royals side was once looking invincible with their top order firing in every match; however, their campaign has taken a jolt with two consecutive defeats. They became the first team to lose against KKR, a team that was winless after their first six games in this season.

Ravichandran Ashwin took no credit away from Rinku Singh or Anukul Roy for how they managed to chase the total, but he has accused Riyan Parag of not having faith in his bowlers, which will compromise their morale in the long run.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin claimed that having a senior bowler like Jadeja in the side and, despite that, not making use of his final over, was a decision that never made sense to him.

The former CSK star said, “You have a world-class left-arm spinner. Sure, numbers and data can tell you something, but he has conceded only 9 or 11 runs in three overs and taken two wickets.

“When Rinku Singh tried to hit, he was so close to getting out, but you thought, ‘I am an off-spinner; I can put pressure on these two left-handers, but Jaddu won’t be able to.’ Though Ravi Bishnoi can, you felt Jaddu won’t be able to. I am telling you, this is the mindset.”

“It is possible that Jaddu bowls and the batter hits two sixes, but by not bowling him, you are not showing trust in your bowling unit in the long term,” Ashwin added, lambasting the RR skipper.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who has always believed in statistics, did not reason that statistics should be discouraged, and Riyan Parag was right to consider bowling an off-spinner against left-handers; however, taking that away from Jadeja never seemed right.

“If a left-arm spinner knows he isn’t wanted against a left-hander, he won’t even try. As a captain or team management, if you are telling him, ‘This is not your job,’ look at what happens to the ball,” claimed Ravichandran Ashwin.

Leg-spinners also do not possess great form against left-handers, but Parag used Ravi Bishnoi, while Jadeja, who bowled a spectacular spell of 2/8 in his three overs, was not used. What seemed more foolish was that he had already trapped Rinku Singh on a former occasion, only to witness Nandre Burger dropping a simple catch.

Ravichandran Ashwin continued, “You won four out of five games, and in this party, if Ravindra Jadeja had taken that wicket of Rinku Singh, he would have been the Man of the Match today. If he becomes the Man of the Match, the Rajasthan Royals become a solid 7-8 player team; the way your team looks then is so good.”

Ashwin calls out to Riyan Parag for picking inexperienced Brijesh Sharma over Ravindra Jadeja

He further claimed that such discrimination is mostly seen against bowlers and not against batters, who are not compromised due to poor form. He cited the examples of players like Nicholas Pooran or Rishabh Pant.

“It is possible that you can lose, but understand that you should lose with one of your better bowlers having bowled. Does it ever happen that you don’t send Mitchell Marsh to bat? You don’t send Rishabh Pant? You don’t send Nicholas Pooran? That never happens,” he claimed.

He then further added that despite Brijesh Sharma being inexperienced, Parag handed him two crucial overs, the 18th and the 20th, witnessing that even Jofra Archer was taken for runs by Rinku and Anukul. He would have made the switch to Jadeja, highlighting his experience with the ball.

“So, what I am saying is that if you can take Brijesh Sharma, who has no experience in the IPL, and give him the 18th and 20th overs in his first game, you can definitely give them to Jadeja. You can give them to Bishnoi, but you can also give them to Jadeja,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.
