Cooper Connolly Follows Shaun Marsh’s Path With Stunning Century For Punjab Kings

The official X handle of Cricbuzz highlighted a remarkable statistical coincidence involving young Australian batter Cooper Connolly. Connolly followed the same path as his childhood idol, Shaun Marsh, during the early years of the IPL.

Both Connolly and Shaun Marsh scored centuries in their 10th IPL match while representing the Punjab Kings. Connolly also became the youngest overseas batter to score an IPL century at the age of 22 years and 257 days. He broke the previous overseas age records held by Quinton de Kock and David Warner.

Cooper Connolly’s Record Century Ends In Defeat As Punjab Kings Suffer Third Straight Loss

Cricket observer Shebas placed Cooper Connolly alongside several batters who scored individual centuries in losing causes during IPL history.

Connolly remained unbeaten on 107 runs, registering the highest individual score by a Punjab Kings batter against Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad. He smashed eight sixes during his innings, surpassing his previous best of seven maximums against Lucknow Super Giants earlier this season.

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya fell cheaply, while captain Shreyas Iyer managed only five runs. Marcus Stoinis scored 28 runs, Suryansh Shedge added 25, and Shashank Singh scored four as wickets continued to fall regularly. Punjab Kings eventually suffered their third consecutive defeat.

Earlier, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 54 runs in just 3.3 overs for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening wicket. Lockie Ferguson dismissed Abhishek for 35, while Yuzvendra Chahal removed Travis Head for 38 soon after the powerplay.

Ishan Kishan then struck a quickfire 55 before Arshdeep Singh dismissed him in the 15th over. Heinrich Klaasen built a crucial 63-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy, scoring 69 off 43 balls with four consecutive sixes.
