Pat Cummins praises Gujarat Titans bowling unit after thumping defeat in IPL 2026

In match no.56 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Shubman Gill’s side made a statement win by 82 runs as they defended the score of 169 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It was a one-sided game as they rose to the top of the points table with 16 points and nearly secured a playoff spot.

This win made it five consecutive wins for Shubman Gill and his boys as they started accelerating from the middle of the season, and so far have never turned back. SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first, as both teams came to the game with an unchanged playing XI.

Sai Sudharsan rescues GT

Batting first, Titans skipper Gill was back early with the score of 5 runs. Sai Sudharsan once again stepped up for the side and scored 61 off 44 balls and stitched a small partnership between Nishant Sindhu, who scored 22 runs, and then Washington Sundar, who played a gem knock of 50 runs, as the Titans finished off with the score of 168/5.

Jason Holder scored 11* and Rahul Tewatia scored 4 runs. Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain picked two wickets each, and Pat Cummins bowled brilliantly, picking just one wicket, giving away just 20 runs in his four-over spell.

Kagiso Rabada was breathing fire for Titans

Coming out to chase, Pat Cummins’ side had the worst possible start, losing Travis Head for a duck in the first over with Mohammed Siraj providing the breakthrough. Wickets kept on falling, with Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan being dismissed soon.

None of the batters of SRH had the answers for the Gujarat Titans’ bowling discipline, with Kagiso Rabada picking three wickets inside the power play, which pushed the Orange Army into deep waters. Salil Arora and Heinrich Klaasen tried to stitch a partnership but were dismissed on the scores of 16 and 14 runs respectively.

Looked like a tough wicket when you hit that back of a length- Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was the leading scorer with a score of 19 runs as the Titans bowled out the Sunrisers side for 86 runs. This loss will surely be a hefty one, keeping the qualification in mind.

Pat Cummins after the loss said, “(What they could have done differently) Thought they (GT pacers) bowled really well. Pretty happy when we walked off. Tricky wicket, they bowled well. Try to look for ways to get through that spell maybe. Looked like a tough wicket when you hit that back of a length. Maybe we could have held our lengths a little longer.”

“But that is as good a T20 bowling (performance) as you can see from them. Our batting has been fantastic, so not reading too much into that. Guys have gone really well. This happens in T20 cricket. We (now) go to venues we know well, so we take confidence from that.”

“We won five or six (out of our last 7-8) and that gives a bit of breathing room (in the playoff race), so going back to what got us those wins and putting this behind quickly.”
