The Thoppumpady police have launched a probe after recovering 106 counterfeit Indian currency notes of ₹500 denomination from near a bar at Thoppumpady in Kochi.
The bundle of notes was found in an abandoned black pouch by a local resident on Thursday night. The man alerted the police who in turn confirmed that the notes were fake.
The police registered a case on Friday and have started examining CCTV footage from the area and nearby locations.
A detailed investigation is on to determine whether the counterfeit notes were intended for circulation, the police said.
