Further confirming that everyone was safe, he said, “Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately. The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition,” adding, “I have spoken with all the representatives in charge of the event, and we will be rescheduling within 30 days.Gunfire broke out near the main security screening area of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, triggering panic among attendees. One suspect was taken into custody by the United States Secret Service. An officer was hit but protected by a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to be OK, according to Associated Press sources.
