The Chennai Super Kings needed to register another massive victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad to maximise their chances for a playoff spot. However, they could not manifest anything special in their final home match of the season.
The Super Kings are currently in the 6th position in the points table and are still in contention for an IPL playoff spot after their defeat in the last game. They will have to win their next game against the Gujarat Titans.

As SRH won the match with a promising show from their batters, Ishan Kishan played the best role and amassed 70 runs with the bat. Following his stellar hand behind the chase, Ishan Kishan, pumped up, went on to celebrate his team’s entry into the playoffs.
Not only was it a win, but it was also a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Hence, Ishan Kishan celebrated the win, mocking the crowd in Chepauk with a ‘Whistle Podu’ celebration.
The CSK fanbase is one of the largest among franchise teams, and they have been offended by Kishan’s mockery. The celebrations have since then gone viral on the internet, and CSK fans have started slamming the cricketer on social media.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s sensible crackdown on Ishan Kishan’s celebration
Ravichandran Ashwin, the former CSK spinner who is well aware of the pulse of the Chepauk crowd, made a more sensible split of the celebrations from Kishan. He had a very balanced response to the issue.
“The way Ishan Kishan celebrated after the match has led to a ruckus on social media platforms. But I feel they should simply let it go, as they are sportsmen and such things can happen. Instead of taking these things personally, fans should be enjoying them.
“An Indian cricketer celebrated in front of you; why should you keep an ego? Just enjoy it; otherwise, where is the fun? Where is the thrill?” said Ashwin, tracking it as a more sensible response.
Ashwin demands a more sporting response from CSK fans.
Ashwin also continued backing Ishan Kishan, saying that it was a great comeback win for the player and his side after that massive defeat in the previous game against the Gujarat Titans, where their batting lineup collapsed for a mere 86 runs.
“They had a bad game against GT, then they bounced back and won this game. It is not easy to defeat a team like CSK at their home ground. A sportsman comes to your home ground and says he has defeated your side at your home ground. Just accept it and give it back to them in a respectful manner when CSK plays it out at SRH’s home ground the next season,” said Ashwin.
