GITAM School of Core Engineering (GSCE), Visakhapatnam, has established the Schwan Laboratory for biomedical training and research. The facility was inaugurated on Monday by P. Bharani Chandra Kumar, Director, GSCE, in the presence of I. Sarat Babu, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, faculty members, and students.
The laboratory provides access to biomedical instrumentation and training platforms for physiological signal acquisition, respiratory assessment, and biomechanical evaluation. Its facilities include BIOPAC systems for ECG, EEG, and EMG analysis, a Noraxon EMG and gait analysis platform, surgical diathermy training units, a haemodialysis demonstration system, non-invasive ventilators, pulmonary function test spirometers, syringe pumps, and defibrillator simulators.
The facility supports GITAM’s B.Tech programme in Biomedical Engineering, which integrates biology, medicine, and engineering. GITAM said collaborations with medical and industry institutions would provide students with practical exposure to medical-device design, testing, and clinical workflows and research opportunities.
