Shashank Singh gained light ahead of the 2024 TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) when he was mistakenly picked by the Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, he did not disappoint the franchise as he became one of the best finishers for the franchise in recent years. However, he did not have the best of the 2026 season with the bat.
Shashank Singh was also criticised for dropping dolly catches during the matches and, as a result, was also dropped from the side for his poor performance throughout the tournament. Off the field, he also did not have the best of times as he was involved in a controversy outside the game, and charges were filed against him.
What happened with Shashank Singh?
Shashank Singh addressed the issue surrounding a police case brought against him and his family on Sunday, claiming that a “false FIR” was used as a form of extortion to harm his reputation as a public person.
The issue comes from an event last month in which Ratibad police in Bhopal filed an FIR against Shashank and his father, former Special Director General (DG) of Police Shailesh Singh, in response to a complaint made by a chef hired at their house. The chef accused the cricketer and his father of violence and verbal abuse.
“This incident changed me forever”- Shashank Singh on false FIR
Now, shedding light on the incident and how it affected and changed the life of Shashank Singh, he tweeted on his official account, describing his feelings.
Shashank Singh tweeted, “This incident changed me forever and taught me lessons I will carry for life.I am not writing this for sympathy. I am writing it because this was the first time my family and I experienced something like this, and I hope others learn from it.”
I’ve carried this with me for a while. Today, I’m choosing to share my perspective. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read it. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/BpbUvZFyoR

“As an athlete, I have faced criticism, trolling and abuse for years. I have learnt to live with it. But this was different. Overnight, I was portrayed as someone who had beaten up a person less privileged than I am. Thousands abused me without knowing the truth.”
Shashank Singh questioned the FIRs
The Punjab Kings batter questioned the facts of the report, claiming that the chef had left his home with no obvious injuries. He stated that they were surprised after seeing the cook in a video, since he looked to be fine when he left their home. He went on to say that the family found it difficult to fathom how the man had sustained such terrible injuries.
He went on to say that the cook insisted on returning to their house but was sent back on the third day when they saw him strolling around the property, taking pictures and transmitting them to his pals, whom he now believes were conspirators.
“We were shocked when we later saw him in the video, because he had left our home completely fine. It took us time to process how someone could end up so badly beaten.”
“He came to our home at his own insistence, but we sent him back on the third day after finding him wandering through the house, taking photos inside it, and forwarding them to his friends (or accomplices, now that I look back).
“Later, police records showed that he already had 9 FIRs registered against him and had been charge-sheeted in 8 cases for offences including attempt to murder, house theft (which we later discovered he had also committed at our home), assault, house-trespass, extortion by causing hurt, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, offences under SC/ST Act, and other crimes.”
“He was using three different names to hide his identity. As more facts came to light, I came to believe that he had never entered our home with honest intentions. I believe the plan was to create pressure on me by filing a false FIR, expecting that I would pay money to protect my reputation as a public figure. In my view, the FIR was used as a tool of extortion rather than a genuine complaint.”
“I thank God”- Shashank Singh thanks almighty for saving his life
Shashank Singh stated that expressed his joy that he was at home with his parents on the day of the incident. He also warned people not to believe someone was telling the truth just because they acted weak, sobbed, or sought sympathy. He concluded his remarks by saying that, while the truth may take time to surface, it always prevails, closing with the words, “Satyamev Jayate.”
“I thank God that I was home with my parents that day. I don’t want to imagine what could have happened otherwise. I believe my family escaped what could have been a much more serious situation. This experience taught me some hard lessons.”
“Never let sympathy replace common sense. Always hire domestic help only through a registered agency after proper police verification. In today’s world, some people are willing to sell their honesty, integrity and conscience for surprisingly little.”
Shashank Singh concluded, “The thought that a known criminal, unknown to us then, came so close to the safe confines of our home still sends a chill down my spine. Just because someone appears to be helpless, is crying, or seeks sympathy does not mean they are telling the truth. Truth may take time, but it always prevails. Satyamev Jayate.”
