Punjab Kings (PBKS) made a blunder in the first innings against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the early stages of the first innings, PBKS fielder Shashank Singh, who was once considered a safe fielder, dropped a regulation catch of the DC opener KL Rahul.
The drop catch of KL Rahul is a crucial moment of the match. After the drop chance, the DC batter started to play a swift knock. By the strategic time-out, he was on 43* off 19. Meanwhile, Shashank Singh made another mistake in the fifth over of the match. On the 4th ball of the 5th over, he dived to stop a boundary.
Shashank Singh is overreacting to avoid a red-hot Ricky Pointing!
He failed to stop the ball from touching the rope and ended up gaining a niggle as well. Whether he is seriously injured or not, it is yet to be known, but the PBKS star was spotted on the sideline, sitting on a seat in their dug-out. When the head coach of PBKS, Ricky Ponting, arrived near Singh, the cricketer started to rub his hamstring area.
A few fans are jokingly saying that to save himself from the wrath of the head coach, who was furious about the drop catch, Shashank Singh was pretending to be seriously injured.

KL Rahul and Nitish Rana provided the Delhi Capitals with an impactful partnership vs PBKS
After winning the toss, the home ground, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals captain, Axar Patel, chose to bat first. With the extra lifeline of KL Rahul, DC got a flying start. In the third over of the match, Arshdeep Singh took the wicket of the other opener, Pathum Nissanka. With only 28 runs on the scoreboard, DC lost their first batter.
The dismissal of Pathum Nissanka did not harm the team’s batting in any way, as KL Rahul was batting, maintaining his usual fine touch. Another experienced batter, DC, Nitish Rana, also started to bat in a confident way. As of now, in 13.4 overs, DC is on 168 for 1, with KL Rahul and Nitish Rana on the crease. While Rahul is gradually moving forward towards a century, Rana completed his half-century in style. Riding high on both of the batters’ striking, DC is looking strong to get a total well over the 200-run mark.
Shashank Singh is yet to show his best in IPL 2026
Shashank Singh, who was one of the stand-out performers in the previous season, has been struggling with his form since the beginning of the IPL 2026 season. The middle-order batter, who can support the team with some bowling skills, is yet to reach his peak in the ongoing season.
As of now, Shashank Singh has scored only 51 runs in 4 innings and 7 matches with a strike rate of 196.15 and a batting average of 25.50. With the ball, he has picked 3 wickets in a couple of innings and seven matches, at an economy rate of 7.80.
The second innings of the match is expected to be a highly entertaining contest, as PBKS also has multiple in-form batters in their line-up, including Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and captain Shreyas Iyer himself.
