Shubman Gill trolls Punjab Kings after GT’s win, takes dig at Shreyas Iyer

After a rough start, the Gujarat Titans have kept their IPL 2026 season alive with three wins in a row. This winning streak has made their captain, Shubman Gill, see the funny side of it once again.

Gill has once again taken to Instagram with a message of banter for the team he just beat. Gill led GT to a last-over 4-wicket win against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 3.

Key Points

  • Shubman Gill shared Instagram post after GT win vs PBKS
  • Caption referenced PBKS’ slogan and GT tagline
  • Post seen as a dig at Shreyas Iyer’s team
  • GT secured third straight win in IPL 2026

GT go past PBKS in a thriller

Gill’s decision to bowl first proved wonders as Mohammed Siraj struck on the second ball of the match. He and Rabada ran through the PBKS batting line-up like ninepins and had them at 47/5 in the ninth over.

Jason Holder also contributed to the carnage, but Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis saved PBKS from being bowled out below 100. Shedge made 57 while Stoinis made 40 to take Punjab to a respectable 163.

PBKS bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh, also managed to get the most out of the conditions. Although Sai Sudharsan’s fifty seemed to put GT on track, a middle-order collapse turned the match into a thriller.

Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 40, though, completed the chase for GT and got Shubman Gill’s men a third straight win.

Shubman Gill trolls Punjab Kings on Instagram

After GT’s win against Chennai Super Kings on April 26 and over Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 30, Gill took to Instagram to troll both those franchises.

Gill then went on to take a dig at RCB and showed appreciation for Jason Holder, who was the player of the match in that game.

After GT’s win over PBKS, Gill uploaded a photo of himself performing a thigh-five alongside Washington Sundar.

The photo was captioned “Bas jeetna hai. Aava De.” Bas jeetna hai (We just have to win) has been the Punjab Kings’ slogan this year, whereas Aava De (let it come) is GT’s tagline. Notably, Gill himself is from Punjab.

Shubman Gill and GT in IPL 2026

Gill’s leadership has been appreciated by many corners in IPL 2026, and his batting has managed to keep GT afloat in the tournament so far.

With 378 runs in 9 matches, Gill is GT’s second-highest run-scorer this year. He has been averaging 42 at a strike rate of almost 155 and has made three fifties, with a high score of 86.

Gujarat Titans’ season looked to be in trouble at the halfway point before the team managed to pick itself up. After losing their first two matches, the 2022 champions went on to win three in a row. But this streak was again snapped after they lost two in a row. Now, GT have bounced back by winning three matches in a row.

Gujarat Titans’ next match

Shubman Gill’s men will take on the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on May 9. Earlier this season, RR had won a last-over thriller against the Gujarat Titans.

GT’s current three-match winning streak has put them level on 12 points with three other teams. But, Gujarat have the worst net run rate of the four teams with 12 points each currently, putting them only fifth on the points table.
