Sony’s Xperia 10 VIII has appeared in an early Geekbench listing, revealing the phone’s chipset and RAM ahead of its official launch on 25 August.
The listing is for Sony’s XQ-GH54, one of three model numbers previously linked to the Xperia 10 VIII. It shows the new mid-range phone running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset alongside 8GB of RAM.
Interestingly, that would mean the Xperia 10 VIII is using the same processor as its predecessor. Geekbench identifies the chip as the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. Meanwhile, the ‘QTI SM6475’ designation also matches Qualcomm’s part number for the chipset found inside the Xperia 10 VII.
That makes the upcoming phone look less like a major performance upgrade, at least from the information available so far, though Sony has yet to reveal the rest of the hardware. Therefore, it’s still unclear whether other areas of the Xperia 10 VIII will receive more substantial changes.
The new leak follows an FCC certification that surfaced last month that confirmed that Sony was working on another smartphone to sit alongside the Xperia 1 VIII. The regulatory filing revealed charging information and a handful of other details. In addition, earlier reports linked the Xperia 10 VIII to the XQ-GH44, XQ-GH54 and XQ-GH74 model numbers.
Sony has now confirmed when we’ll find out exactly what it has planned. The company’s next Xperia New Product Announcement is scheduled for August 25 at 02:00 UTC. However, it has not explicitly named the phone it will unveil.
For now, pricing, availability and the rest of the Xperia 10 VIII’s specifications remain unknown, but maybe not for much longer.
