Sree Charani Breaks All-Time T20I Bowling Rating Record

Indian spinner Sree Charani has created another piece of history in women’s cricket. The left-arm spinner has reached 817 rating points in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings, moving past the previous highest rating achieved by a bowler in the format.

Charani, who continues to occupy the World No. 1 position, has gone past former Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt’s previous benchmark of 806 rating points, which she achieved against Pakistan in Guyana in November 2018.

The achievement adds another remarkable chapter to Charani’s outstanding 2026 season, during which she has emerged as one of India’s most important bowlers across major tournaments.

Sree Charani Reaches Record 817 Rating Points

Charani’s rise to 817 rating points puts her above the previous benchmark set by Megan Schutt.

Schutt had held the benchmark since November 2018. Earlier this month, Charani had already moved beyond the 800-point mark following her brilliant performance in the Women’s Asia Cup.

After taking 4/20 against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, Charani moved to a then career-best 804 points. She was also the first Indian bowler to cross 800 rating points in the Women’s T20I rankings.

Her performances since then have pushed the rating even higher.

Sree Charani’s Brilliant 2026 T20I Numbers

Charani’s ranking rise has been backed by a remarkable wicket-taking record.

She has taken 47 wickets from 23 T20Is in 2026, at an average of just 10.43 and an economy rate of 5.68.

Her career numbers have also improved rapidly. Charani now has 62 wickets from 33 T20Is, with four four-wicket hauls to her name.

Outstanding Performances in Major Tournaments

The year has been special for Charani not only because of the number of wickets she has taken, but also because of when she has delivered them.

At the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, Charani finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets from only five matches.

She averaged 8.35 with the ball and maintained an economy rate of 5.85. Her performances included 4/19 against the Netherlands and three-wicket hauls against South Africa and Pakistan.

She became the first Indian bowler to take 14 wickets in a single edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, breaking Poonam Yadav’s previous Indian record of 10 wickets from the 2020 tournament.

Charani Stars in India’s Asia Cup Triumph

The left-arm spinner continued the same form during the Women’s Asia Cup.

Charani finished the tournament with 12 wickets and saved one of her best performances for the final against Sri Lanka.

She returned figures of 4/20 as India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs to win their record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.

That performance was particularly important for her ranking. It took her beyond the 800-point barrier for the first time and strengthened her position as the World No. 1 T20I bowler.

Another Strong Performance in Asian Games Final

Charani continued to deliver during India’s successful Asian Games campaign in Japan.

In the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka, India posted a massive 216/3 before dismissing Sri Lanka for just 69.

Charani produced another controlled spell, finishing with:

4 overs – 13 runs – 2 wickets

India eventually won the final by 147 runs and secured the women’s cricket gold medal.

Her tournament included four wickets against Japan, two against Bangladesh in the semifinal and another two against Sri Lanka in the final.
