Suresh Raina leaks private chat with MS Dhoni on IPL future

Former CSK star batter Suresh Raina has revealed that MS Dhoni could return for the next season of the IPL in 2027, despite the Super Kings legend having missed all 13 matches in the season.

Chennai Super Kings have had a mixed return in the season, as they have won some matches midway through the season after having made a poor start and also lacking momentum towards the back end.

One of their major misses this season was MS Dhoni missing out on a single appearance. Dhoni was ruled out with a calf injury and missed the entire season due to a massive injury concern and lack of fitness despite recovering from the mentioned injury.

Suresh Raina hints at MS Dhoni’s return in IPL 2027

MS Dhoni walked throughout the Chidambaram Stadium and shared some lovely moments with his fans and the hundreds of people he was formerly associated with, which made the occasion look like his final appearance at the venue.

During the same event, he was spotted in some candid chats with former CSK and India teammate Suresh Raina, another legend of the game. Though the event looked like a final appearance for Dhoni, Suresh Raina has hinted at another possible season for the legendary wicket-keeper.

Speaking about his interaction with MS Dhoni, Raina confirmed that he asked Dhoni to make a final appearance at Chepauk and to return for that the next season; however, Dhoni admitted to struggling with fitness.

“I told him ‘you have given IPL 2026 a missed call. It won’t count. You have to come back next year’. He said ‘my body is a little weak’ – I said ‘we are not believing anything. You have to play next year’. It’s his personal call. I think he is positive. The team is also gelling well again,”

Ruturaj Gaikwad also updated Dhoni’s unavailability ahead of their clash against SRH

Ahead of the clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad informed about a possible lack of fitness for the legendary cricketer as the match presenter Ravi Shastri asked him for a reason behind Dhoni not playing CSK’s last game in Chepauk.

However, though not part of the playing XI, Dhoni became the centre of attraction in the game when he walked out onto the field for the team photoshoot. At that moment, he drew large cheers from the fans at Chepauk who were eager to witness their star walk down that aisle.
