WATCH: Abhishek Sharma dismisses Shubman Gill after intense battle in Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026

Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma found themselves on opposite sides during the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026 clash between Fazilka Falcons and Amritsar Soormas at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday, September 7. The familiar teammates produced an entertaining contest when Abhishek came on to bowl, with Gill initially taking the left-arm spinner apart before the battle ended in the bowler’s favour.

Gill had already settled into the innings after Fazilka were reduced to 20-2 in the third over. Following a promising cameo on his debut in the competition, the India star went on to register his first fifty of the tournament before Abhishek eventually dismissed him for 67.

Shubman Gill leads Fazilka Falcons after early wickets

Gill walked in with Fazilka under pressure and immediately took responsibility for rebuilding the innings. The right-hander looked comfortable throughout his stay and played aggressively whenever the bowlers offered him scoring opportunities.

By the time Abhishek came into the attack in the 10th over, Gill had already established himself as the mainstay of the Falcons innings. Abhishek had impressed until then, conceding only 10 runs from his first two overs and dismissing Anshul Choudhary during the powerplay, setting up an intriguing battle between the two India teammates.

Abhishek Sharma wins the battle after Gill launches attack

Gill wasted little time taking on Abhishek, sending the first challenge straight back at the spinner by smashing a six over his head. He then followed it with two more boundaries towards mid-wicket, putting Abhishek under immediate pressure and keeping the over moving at a rapid pace.

However, Gill tried to finish the over with another big hit over mid-wicket and paid the price. Abhishek dropped short, and the right-hander pulled hard in an attempt to clear the boundary, but the shot did not have enough power. Naman Dhir positioned himself perfectly on the boundary edge and completed a composed catch after timing his jump well.

Abhishek celebrated the dismissal with delight and shared a laugh with his teammates after removing one of the biggest names in the opposition batting line-up. He finished with figures of 2/37 from his four overs, adding an important wicket to his earlier dismissal of Anshul.

Shubman Gill continues strong T20 form in 2026

Gill’s 67 came after he had made 40 off 21 balls on his Sher-e-Punjab T20 League debut, further highlighting his strong run in the shortest format this year. The Indian ODI captain has been pushing for a return to the T20I setup after missing out on the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

He enjoyed an outstanding IPL 2026 campaign with Gujarat Titans, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 732 runs at an average of 45.75 and a strike rate of 163.02. His performances have kept him firmly in the conversation for a return to India’s T20 side. Fazilka Falcons were placed at 187/5 after 19 overs at the time of writing, with the team looking to finish strongly after Gill’s important contribution at the top of the order.
