Marco Jansen produced a brilliant piece of fielding during the opening ODI between South Africa and Australia at Kingsmead in Durban, taking a stunning diving catch to dismiss Matt Renshaw.
Chasing 298 for victory, Australia had lost wickets through the middle overs but still had some hope with Renshaw at the crease.
However, Jansen’s outstanding effort near the boundary ended Renshaw’s resistance and put South Africa firmly in control of the contest.

The brilliant moment came during the 37th over of Australia’s chase, with Gerald Coetzee bowling to Renshaw.
Coetzee delivered a short ball and Renshaw went for the pull, hitting it firmly towards the deep mid-wicket region.For a moment, the ball looked set to land safely. Jansen, however, had other ideas.The tall South African all-rounder covered plenty of ground before launching himself into a full-length dive to his right. Jansen stretched out both hands and managed to grab the ball just inches above the turf.He maintained complete control of the catch even as he landed and slid across the outfield.It was an outstanding effort from the 6-foot-8 all-rounder and gave South Africa another important wicket.

Matt Renshaw’s Resistance Comes to an End
Renshaw’s wicket was particularly important considering the match situation.Australia were chasing 298 and had already lost several wickets after Mitchell Marsh’s aggressive start.Renshaw was trying to keep the chase alive alongside the lower order and had reached 44 from 48 deliveries.But Jansen’s catch ended his stay at the crease and left Australia at 215 for 7.With the last recognised batter gone, South Africa were able to put further pressure on Australia’s lower order.
Australia were eventually bowled out for 230 in 41.2 overs, giving South Africa a 67-run victory and a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Jansen’s stunning catch added to an excellent all-round performance in Durban.Earlier, South Africa had been in trouble at 168 for 5 before Jansen joined Matthew Breetzke in the middle.The pair completely changed the momentum of the innings with a 107-run partnership for the sixth wicket.Breetzke scored an excellent 112 from 106 deliveries, while Jansen attacked Australia’s bowlers and smashed 75 from just 59 balls.His innings included seven fours and four sixes and helped South Africa reach 297 for 8 from their 50 overs.Jansen was eventually trapped LBW by Nathan Ellis on the final ball of the 49th over.He then continued to make an impact in the field during Australia’s chase.
