Rohit Sharma grabbed attention with his unusual celebration after completing his 35th ODI century against West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The India opener marked his 72-ball hundred with a hopping jog and a punch in the air, leaving fans curious about the meaning behind the gesture.
Rohit was later asked about the celebration during the post-match presentation and initially chose to keep its meaning private. However, he did reveal the role Ravindra Jadeja played in the celebration after the all-rounder came up with a rather amusing suggestion.
Rohit Sharma reveals Ravindra Jadeja’s hilarious suggestion
Rohit revealed that Jadeja wanted him to celebrate his century by sliding and jumping. However, the India opener had no intention of attempting such an energetic celebration after spending 50 overs on the field before batting for a long period. Rohit also made it clear that the actual meaning behind his celebration was something he wanted to keep to himself, saying that some things are meant to remain personal.
“[Jadeja] wanted me to slide and jump and celebrate, but after fifty overs of fielding and batting so much, I was never going to do that,” Rohit said.

The century was an important one for Rohit, who had scored 32 in the first ODI amid continued discussion over his future in the format. He responded in emphatic fashion in Guwahati, producing a 72-ball hundred and forming a huge opening partnership with Shubman Gill. The pair added 255 runs for the first wicket as India chased West Indies’ mammoth 405-run total.
Gill also produced a spectacular double century, while Rohit continued to anchor the chase with his experience and aggressive strokeplay. India eventually completed an eight-wicket victory with 39 balls remaining, with the dominant opening partnership laying the foundation for a successful chase.
