The one-off Test between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi witnessed an important moment on Day 2 as Afghanistan’s bowlers completed an impressive fightback to dismiss the visitors for 346. Bangladesh had built a strong platform through contributions from their top-order batters, but Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding prevented them from reaching a potentially bigger total. Among the standout moments was a superb catch by Zia-ur-Rehman to remove Ebadot Hossain and bring Bangladesh’s innings to an end.
Zia-ur-Rehman produces excellent catch to dismiss Ebadot Hossain
The dismissal came on the third delivery of the 93rd over, with Yamin Ahmadzai bowling to Hossain. The Afghanistan pacer delivered a length ball that moved away late, forcing the Bangladesh batter into an uncomfortable position as he attempted to defend it.
Hossain was squared up by the movement and made awkward contact with the delivery. The ball took the leading edge of his bat and travelled towards the point region, where Rehman reacted quickly to complete an excellent diving catch. Rehman moved forward and held on to the chance, ensuring Afghanistan did not allow the final Bangladesh partnership to continue. The catch brought the visitors’ innings to a close at 346, with Ahmadzai claiming his third wicket of the innings.

Mohammad Saleem leads Afghanistan’s fighback after Bangladesh batters’ heroics
Bangladesh’s innings featured three significant contributions that helped the team establish a competitive total. Opener Tanzid Hasan was the most aggressive batter, scoring 83 off just 71 deliveries. His attacking approach put pressure on Afghanistan’s bowling attack and helped Bangladesh maintain a healthy scoring rate during the early stages.
At the other end, Shadman Islam provided stability with a composed innings of 67. His contribution complemented Tanzid’s attacking style and gave Bangladesh a strong foundation from which to build. Litton Das subsequently added another important half-century, scoring 53 to keep the innings moving. With contributions from the top order, Bangladesh appeared well placed to push their total beyond 400.
However, Afghanistan gradually regained control as the innings progressed. The visitors struggled to maintain their momentum against the older ball, and the lower-middle order could not convert the promising start into a substantially larger score. Bangladesh were eventually dismissed in 92.3 overs.
Afghanistan’s bowlers deserve credit for remaining disciplined despite Bangladesh’s early scoring surge. Their effective use of reverse swing and consistent lines and lengths helped them break partnerships and prevent the hosts’ opponents from dominating the contest. Mohammad Saleem led the attack with impressive figures of 4/82. He consistently troubled the batters with his pace and movement, making crucial breakthroughs when Bangladesh looked capable of accelerating.
Ahmadzai also played a decisive role, finishing with 3/79. His third wicket, Hossain, came through a combination of late movement and excellent fielding from Rehman. Ismat Alam contributed two wickets, helping Afghanistan clean up the tail as Bangladesh were folded at 346.
