For Malappuram District Collector Vinay Goyal, his birthday became an occasion to share time and happiness with people who need care and support. Instead of keeping the day to himself, he celebrated it with palliative care patients and their families at a gathering organised by the Malappuram block panchayat here on Tuesday (October 13).
Mr. Goyal cut a birthday cake with the participants at ‘Sukoon’, a gathering that brought patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers together. For the families who spend much of their time caring for their loved ones, the event offered an opportunity to meet others facing similar challenges and take part in a community programme.
Mr. Goyal said he was happy to share his birthday with patients and their families. The celebration gave a personal touch to the meeting, turning it into an occasion for people to share a moment of happiness.

The Collector also spoke about Keralam’s position in palliative care and praised the work of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and accredited social health activists (ASHA workers) in Malappuram. He said the district administration would continue to support palliative care activities.
Palliative care helps people living with serious illnesses manage pain and other symptoms while supporting their families. Healthcare workers and caregivers play an important role in providing this support, often over long periods.
The Sukoon programme also featured cultural performances by ASHA workers and palliative care staff. The activities gave participants an opportunity to spend time together beyond their routine care arrangements.
