Pakistan have made several changes to their white-ball teams, but there is still no clarity over who will be the vice-captain in the T20I and ODI sides. Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now raised the issue publicly, questioning Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selector Aaqib Javed about the absence of a vice-captain.Basit took to social media and directly tagged Javed while seeking clarity on the leadership roles in both formats.“T20 and odi ki team mai vice captain khoun hai aqib jawed sb (Who is the vice captain of the T20 and ODI teams, Aaqib Javed sir)”, Basit wrote on X.His question comes after Pakistan made changes to their white-ball leadership ahead of the upcoming series.
Farhan takes over from Salman
Sahibzada Farhan has been appointed Pakistan’s new T20I captain, replacing Salman Ali Agha for the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Salman has also been dropped from the T20I squad following the change in leadership.Farhan will lead Pakistan in the T20Is against Sri Lanka on October 9, 11 and 13 in Rawalpindi. The 2026 Asian Games silver medallist recently led Pakistan at the Games, where they lost to India in the final. Abdul Samad was Farhan’s vice-captain during the Asian Games. However, the PCB has not announced a vice-captain for the upcoming T20I series.
Shaheen remains ODI captain
Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as Pakistan’s ODI captain. He will lead the side in the tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England, starting on October 18 in Rawalpindi. The ODI squad features experienced players such as Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha. But there is no vice-captain named in the ODI squad either. This has left the leadership structure in both white-ball formats unclear and prompted Basit to question the PCB.
Pakistan make several squad changes
Pakistan have made a number of changes to their squads following their recent performances. The team lost the Asia Cup final to India and failed to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup under Salman’s captaincy. Babar has been left out of the T20I squad, while Shaheen will not feature in the T20I series but will lead the ODI side.Naseem Shah has returned to the T20I squad after last playing in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
