Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in the India National Cricket Team for the Ireland and England T20I tours, respectively and also in the Asian Games 2026. The 15-year-old teenage sensation will be featuring for the senior side after rocking in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and previously in U-19 cricket as well.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming tours, where Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in every team. This showcases the talent he has generated at this age and dominated some world-class bowlers in the recently concluded IPL. He has currently reached Sri Lanka for the India A side for a tri-series.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents granted special permission
Amidst all this, BCCI has granted special permission to his parents to travel with him in the UK tour as they feel that the presence of family would help him adjust to the demands of international cricket and life away from home. The board also decided to cover all the expenses of Vaibhav’s parents as well.
The Board’s leadership decided that having his parents around would be the finest support system as he took his first steps into international cricket. “As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment. The Board will cover all their expenses,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar.
Fireworks galore at Bihar for Sooryavanshi’s selection
After getting selected for the India National Cricket Team, the celebrations began at his village, Samistipur, Bihar. There were fireworks up the sky, sweets were distributed to residents and neighbours, and people gathered outside the family home to commemorate what many saw as a watershed event for both the state and Indian cricket.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection in the Indian T20I team, cricket coach Rahul Kumar says, “We are all very happy about Vaibhav’s selection. He used to play with us, and this is a proud moment for all of us.” Another cricket player, Devashish Thakur, says, “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection in the Indian team is a matter of great happiness. It is a moment of pride for all of us.”
Sooryavanshi breaks 36 year old record
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi already broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar, as he became the youngest player ever selected for the Indian national team. In doing so, he surpassed a record that had stood for 36 years and was previously held by the greatest of the game.
The boy wonder won the Orange Cap this season in IPL, scoring 776 runs, and was also the Most Valuable Player (MVP), which also the player of the tournament, gaining 436.5 points in the season.
He nearly won every award in this year’s IPL and broke several milestones while achieving this; from Virat Kohli to former cricketers, everyone have congratulated the young boy for his exceptional performances. He also became the youngest cricketer to win the Orange Cap in the history of the competition.
