Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s misfortune comes to light as, despite having created several chances in this season, he has missed out on many wickets due to the disgusting fielding efforts from the PBKS fielders.
The Punjab Kings have been losing matches in a row after having maintained their undefeated streak for seven matches this season. One of the core reasons for their losses is none other than their fielding efforts, which have been poor in the last few matches.
The fielding of the Kings has been awful throughout this season; however, until it cost them the game, the Kings didn’t look concerned about it. However, Ricky Ponting has looked concerned with this poor show in recent times.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s shocking record for PBKS comes to light.
Yuzvendra Chahal has created 16 catching chances so far at #IPL2026, 8 of which have been dropped 😳

Punjab Kings have, anyway, lacked any kind of strike bowler on their side, but with Yuzvendra Chahal on their side, the spinner is the most reliable name to provide breakthroughs at crucial junctures of the game.
Yuzvendra Chahal has shockingly produced enough chances for the Punjab Kings; however, they have not managed to cling onto catches on the majority of these occasions. Chahal has created 16 chances in this season of the TATA IPL, and 50% of those chances have been spilled by the Punjab Kings.
Out of the 61 bowlers to have produced more than four chances this season, he is the bowler to have had the highest percentage of catches dropped. As a result of this, Chahal has been scanty on wickets, and Punjab have failed to dominate in those middle overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s performance in IPL 2026
Having made ten appearances this season for the Punjab Kings, the veteran Indian spinner has picked eight wickets. Though his wicket tally doesn’t look enriched like in former seasons, Chahal has been impressive with the ball.
In the majority of the games, where the rest of the PBKS bowlers went for runs at an economy of 12 or more, Chahal has limited the flow to less than 9.5 an over, which looks like a commendable job. Even in yesterday’s game against SRH, Chahal bowled at an economy of just 8, while SRH set a target of 236 runs.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL and is nearing the landmark of 250 wickets in the IPL. Had all those chances been grabbed, Yuzi could have easily been riding at the top of that purple cap tally, fighting for the top spot against the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kagiso Rabada.
Can Punjab Kings still retain the top two spot in the IPL 2026 points table?
Punjab Kings have just lost three matches in the IPL and are currently placed second on the points table with 13 points. It seems evident that they are a solid contender for one of those four playoff spots; however, PBKS would aim for the top two spots after the promising start to the season.
With four more matches left, that too against some of the weaker opponents who are in the lower part of the table, the Kings can surely get back their winning streak. Moreover, they would look to play Qualifier 1, not only because it gives them a second chance to make it to the finals but also because it will be played at their home ground in Dharamshala.
