Khaleel Ahmed gives update on his CSK future

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has addressed the trade speculation surrounding his IPL future, saying his focus remains on helping the franchise win its record sixth IPL title. Responding to a fan on social media, the left-arm pacer said that qualifying for the playoffs is not his goal.

The statement comes during the IPL 2027 trade window after the Super Kings endured another disappointing season. CSK finished eighth in IPL 2026 and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year. The five-time champions will look to strengthen their squad and return to the title race next season.

Khaleel Ahmed Reaffirms Commitment to Chennai Super Kings Amid Trade Rumours

Trade rumours around Khaleel Ahmed have grown during the IPL 2027 off-season. Reports suggest that Chennai Super Kings could include Khaleel and Shivam Dube in a swap deal with Mumbai Indians for Hardik Pandya.

The speculation increased after former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said Khaleel had previously asked CSK for a release. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Khaleel had already asked CSK to release him last year. Not sure if you remember this. Khaleel wanted to go last year. There were talks that Khaleel wanted to be let go off.”

Reports have also suggested that Khaleel wanted to enter the auction and increase his salary from around ₹4-6 crore to a possible ₹10-12 crore deal.

A fan asked him to use his Powerplay overs to help CSK qualify for the IPL 2027 playoffs. The left-arm pacer replied, “inswing bhi and Qualifying is just the warmup. The real mindset is all about lifting that trophy. 🏆 6th ✌️”

Chennai Super Kings’ Disappointing IPL 2026 Campaign

Chennai Super Kings finished eighth in IPL 2026 after winning six and losing eight of their 14 league matches. They finished with 12 points and a Net Run Rate of -0.345 and missed the playoffs for the third straight season.

Injuries hurt CSK throughout the campaign. MS Dhoni missed the tournament, while Nathan Ellis, Jamie Overton and Khaleel also suffered setbacks. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also faced criticism for his captaincy and batting approach.

Despite the poor season, Sanju Samson was a major positive after joining the franchise through a trade. He finished as CSK’s leading run-scorer with 477 runs, including an unbeaten 115 off 56 balls against Delhi Capitals. Anshul Kamboj led the bowling attack with 21 wickets.
