A month after being arrested for accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe, Keesara Police Inspector Arkapally Anjaneyulu has come under the scanner of the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) once again. This time for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Searches conducted at six locations on Saturday revealed properties, cash, gold and other valuables, with the officer’s assets estimated at ₹2.28 crore.
The ACB’s City Range-I registered a disproportionate assets case against Anjaneyulu, who was serving at Keesara Police Station under the Medchal-Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate, following allegations that he had acquired wealth through corrupt practices during his service.
Searches were conducted at his residence, office and four other locations linked to his relatives, associates and suspected benamidars.
According to the ACB, investigators uncovered documents relating to two plots measuring 150 square yards each, along with an old house at Lingojiguda in Saroornagar, collectively valued at ₹30 lakh.
Another old house measuring 240 square yards at CR Enclave in Mansoorabad, LB Nagar, was valued at ₹40 lakh, while an under-construction house spread across 180 square yards in Perur village was valued at ₹50 lakh.
The searches also revealed documents relating to two acres of agricultural land at Haliya in Miryalaguda, valued at ₹80 lakh. Further enquiries indicated that Anjaneyulu had acquired additional agricultural land in the same area, which is now being examined by investigators.
Apart from the immovable properties, officials recovered ₹7 lakh in cash, gold ornaments weighing 60 tolas valued at approximately ₹5 lakh, a Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi+ BSIV valued at ₹6.5 lakh, and household articles and electronic gadgets estimated to be worth ₹10 lakh.
The ACB said the total value of the identified assets was estimated at ₹2,28,50,000, based on official valuations. However, the agency believes their prevailing market value could be substantially higher.
The disproportionate assets investigation follows Anjaneyulu’s arrest in September in a separate bribery case.
On September 16, while serving as Inspector at Keesara Police Station, he was caught by the ACB after demanding ₹8 lakh and accepting ₹5 lakh through his subordinate, Sub-Inspector D. Gyanender Reddy, in exchange for extending an official favour.
Anjaneyulu was arrested on September 17 and produced before the ACB Court. He is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison.
The ACB said he would be produced before the court on a prisoner transit warrant in connection with the latest disproportionate assets case.
A case has been registered under Sections 13(1)(b) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
Officials said further verification of the properties and other assets identified during the searches was under way, while the investigation into the officer’s sources of income and financial transactions continued.
