KKR’s defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have turned the tables for the Knight Riders. They not only ended their four-match winning streak but were also mathematically eliminated from the race for the playoffs. RCB and GT are clearly sealing a spot in the playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have managed to win their eighth match of the season after having played 12 matches into the season. They have now reclaimed their spot at the top of the IPL 2026 points table, and Kohli is once again the POTM in a winning cause for RCB.
Virat Kohli scores ninth IPL hundred; Breaks World record held by former RCBian Chris Gayle
Kohli came out to chase in Raipur after they clashed with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli came off after two ducks in the two previous games of the season and then returned to the peak of the Orange Cap list in this IPL with a magnificent hundred.
Virat didn’t give the slightest opportunity after that smashing shot burst the ball through Rovman Powell’s hands in the cover region. He then continued the onslaught in a massive partnership and then took the chase further, finishing on a mammoth 105*.
With this, he went past 14000 runs in T20 cricket and became the first Indian player to reach the milestone. He also broke the former record of Chris Gayle by having amassed those 14000+ runs in just 409* innings in the shortest format of the game.
Kohli’s unmatchable run-scoring record in IPL
Going past 400 runs in this season, the former India captain has reached 484 runs by the end of the chase against KKR. He is only behind the likes of Sunrisers’ Heinrich Klaasen and Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan.
With 400+ runs in this season as well, the veteran Indian batter extended his own record in the IPL. He became the first batter with 12 seasons to have scored 400+ runs, extending his lead over the likes of David Warner, Suresh Raina, and Rohit Sharma.
This century marked his ninth hundred of his IPL career, while he also became the first Indian batter to have scored 10 centuries in a T20 career.
