Pat Cummins wary of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi threat ahead of IPL Eliminator, forced to prepare Plan B and C

The fear of 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is clearly visible inside the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp ahead of the high-voltage IPL 2026 Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in New Chandigarh on Wednesday (May 27).

After getting completely destroyed by the teenager last month, Sunrisers Hyderabad are now preparing special plans just to stop him in the IPL 2026 Eliminator.

Ahead of this clash, SRH captain Pat Cummins admitted that Sooryavanshi has become one of those dangerous batters who can single-handedly change the match in a few overs, and they have prepared many plans for him.

Sunrisers Hyderabad still haunted by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s brutal Jaipur carnage?

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the biggest revelations of the ongoing IPL 2026. At the age of 15, the left-handed batter has shocked the cricket world with fearless hitting against some of the best bowlers in the tournament. He has already smashed 568 runs this season at an unbelievable strike rate above 230 and is currently fighting for the Orange Cap.

One of RR opener’s innings stunned Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur. During that match on April 25, Vaibhav completely ripped apart the SRH bowling attack and hammered a brutal century in just 36 balls; that is one of the fastest hundreds in IPL history.

Interestingly, SRH had earlier managed to dismiss him for a duck in Hyderabad when young pacer Praful Hinge removed him in the first over. But when the two teams met again in Jaipur, Sooryavanshi came back with full aggression and targeted the same bowling attack from ball one.

The youngster attacked the same bowler, Hinge, for four sixes in a single over, putting SRH under pressure straightaway. After getting the lifeline when he was on 32, the Bihar lad raced to a 15-ball fifty and then blasted a stunning 36-ball century, leaving the SRH camp completely helpless. Luckily, SRH won both matches against RR in the group stages in Hyderabad and Jaipur.

Pat Cummins admits SRH need backup plans for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026 Eliminator

Now ahead of the Eliminator, Pat Cummins has openly admitted that SRH needs backup plans to control Vaibhav Sooryavanshi because players like him can take the match away within minutes.

The Australian skipper also hinted that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have prepared plans B and C for the Rajasthan Royals sensation for the big game on Wednesday in New Chandigarh.

Pat Cummins said at the pre-match press conference: “It’s always a balance of, as a bowler, understanding what you do well and how you’re going to bowl to your strengths. But when there are probably one or two players in every lineup who can take the game away from the opposition, you do spend a little bit longer working on a Plan B or Plan C. So, yeah, we’ll plan for him.”

Pat Cummins says SRH learned valuable lessons from Jaipur carnage

However, Australia’s premier fast bowler feels SRH bowled really well against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in patches during the Jaipur game, so he is confident that his attack must utilize their learnings to keep the young gun in check in the knockout clash.

Cummins signed off by saying, “Even though he got a hundred against us last time, I thought there were times when we actually bowled quite well to him and kept him quiet. At other times, he got away from us. So, we’ll learn from that.”
