Australia Announce Squads for Pakistan & Bangladesh Series

A fresh look defines Australia’s latest squad picks for their one-day trips to Pakistan and then Bangladesh. Young Ollie Peake steps in, leading the Under-19s into this new chapter. His first national selection comes after strong showings on junior stages. Set for the Pakistan ODIs this coming fortnight, he takes the field early next week. Beyond that stretch, though, his name does not appear for the games down in Bangladesh

That teenager lit up the Under-19 World Cup months ago, piling on 234 runs across four knocks – average nearly eighty. Because so many big names are away playing IPL, he caught selectors’ eyes; might just find himself in the squad now. Though young, his form screams opportunity, perhaps even a first senior appearance coming soon.

“It’s always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team. The blend of experienced players, coupled with new or returning players, will provide a nice mix for these subcontinent tours. Continuing to provide opportunities for players to develop across a broad range of conditions and experiences is important and will continue to be a focus over the next 18 months to two years across the calendar and with future campaigns in mind,” Chair of selectors George Bailey said.

Out on the sidelines, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood sit through the whole tour. Then there’s Mitchell Starc – ODIs won’t see him either, following his earlier exit from T20I play. Instead of Cummins leading, it falls to Mitchell Marsh to take charge during the one-day games.

Back home, Travis Head keeps playing for his IPL team during the knockouts. Because of that, selection choices get messy when splitting up Australia’s groups by format type. Cooper Connolly sticks around too, staying put with his franchise until games wrap. Their spot in the national setup waits till after commitments finish. Ben Dwarshuis follows the same route, linked still to playoff duties far from usual rotations. Only once those matches end does he rejoin wider plans. Xavier Bartell also holds position there, part of ongoing tournament pressure before flying out later. Together, they miss early moves but land back just ahead of the Bangladesh one-day start date set for June ninth.

Out in the cold again, Glenn Maxwell misses out on the T20I games versus Bangladesh even though he could have played. On a different note, Aaron Hardie makes his way back into the T20 lineup following strong performances in the PSL, yet finds himself left off both ODI groups.

Picked for their performances at home, Liam Scott and Joel Davies now find themselves in line for international duty. A sharp run of games for South Australia lifted Scott into both one-day squads. Off the back of that momentum, he earns his first nod. Davies makes the list too, set to join the trips to Pakistan for the ODIs and later head to Bangladesh for the T20 matches.

Billy Stanlake finds himself back in the national squad for the first time since 2019, though only named for the Pakistan fixtures. Part of the selection includes Matt Short too – but just for that stretch of matches.
