‘Bide his time and wait’ – Ryan ten Doeschate demands patience in regards to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s India debut

India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, has revealed how Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will need to wait and bide his time in the team before making his much-awaited international debut, even if he is already ready to take the step. This comes after India’s shock 2-0 series defeat at the hands of Ireland on Sunday, June 28.

Despite being ready to represent India on the international stage, ten Doeschate believes that dropping a proven match-winner like Sanju Samson to make room for Sooryavanshi is not appropriate. The right-handed batter did have two low scores against Ireland, but has enough pedigree from the past to maintain his place as an opener alongside Abhishek Sharma.

“He’s absolutely ready to play international cricket, there’s no doubt about that. But also, I think it’s not a question to say you can leave Sanju Samson out. A guy who went a long way to winning India the World Cup three months ago. A guy who’s had a fairly good IPL,” Ryan ten Doeschate said, via Cricinfo.

Ten Doeschate also stated that Sooryavanshi will not receive any special treatment and will have to be patient to get his opportunity on the side, like every other player before him.

“It’s important in terms of giving players confidence, and the message we’re sending to players. We want to give guys a long run in the team. So, you know, as ready as Vaibhav is and as excited as we are and you are to see him play, he’s going to have to go through the same process as everyone else and, you know, bide his time and wait. But certainly no questions about how good he is and how ready he is,” Ryan ten Doeschate added.

It is worth mentioning that there were two debutants for India during the second T20I against Ireland. Both Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge earned their maiden caps, with the former having a great outing. Yadav took three wickets in his first appearance for the Men in Blue while conceding just 22 runs from four overs.
