The Bombay High Court ordered Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of a Goa-based nightclub in Arpora, to deposit an interim compensation of ₹20 lakh each for the families of the 25 people killed in the fire at their club in North Goa in 2025.
The bench consisting of Justices Valmiki Menezes and Amit Jamsandekar was hearing a petition on relief for the victims of December 2025 fire at in North Goa.
The Court directed that the “deposit would be subject to final contentions in the main matter”.
On the night of December 6, a fire broke out in Luthra’s club during a crowded party with an indoor fire show/pyrotechnics, allegedly killing 25 people, including 20 staff members working in the basement kitchen; five were guests and over 50 were injured. Following the incident Luthra brothers fled to Thailand and deported on December 17 back to India, currently lodged in Colvale Central Jail in North Goa.
After the families of the deceased sought compensation of ₹50 lakh each through their lawyer, the Court suggested that the owners deposit ₹20 lakh each in court without any prejudice to the main matter and also asked to work out the arrangement by October 21, instructing the appointed amicus curiae to prepare a detailed list of cases pending related to main matter.
