ED not misused in CMRL payout case: Janeesh

Sports Minister O.J. Janeesh said the Keralam government had not misused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the CMRL’s illegal payout case involving Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter T. Veena.

Speaking to journalists here on Tuesday, Mr. Janeesh said the ED had not been brought in to target Opposition MLAs, as he alleged the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had done.

Responding to the remark by DYFI State president Chintha Jerome that Mr. Janeesh was acting like Emperor Nero, the Minister said her comparison was a good one.

Shafi Parambil, MP, responding to a question, said the United Democratic Front (UDF) government did not have an excessive eagerness to fall into the ED’s trap.

“The law will take its course. The UDF government has only done what any government would do. We did not rush to file an FIR. We acted after seeking legal advice on what needed to be done. We have no intention of trapping anyone,” Mr. Parambil said.

He also said that it was Pinarayi Vijayan who had brought in the CBI to implicate former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
