IPL 2026: Will Phil Salt play the Qualifier 1 against GT? RCB skipper Rajat Patidar provides crucial update

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has shared a crucial fitness update on explosive England batter Phil Salt ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans. The blockbuster encounter is set to take place at the picturesque HPCA Stadium on Tuesday, with a direct place in the final at stake.

RCB supporters had been eagerly waiting for clarity regarding Salt’s availability after the wicketkeeper-batter suffered a finger injury earlier in the tournament. While the franchise has not officially confirmed his inclusion in the playing XI, Patidar’s latest comments have certainly boosted optimism within the camp.

Phil Salt returns to training after injury setback

Notably, Salt had travelled back to the United Kingdom after injuring his finger during RCB’s league-stage fixture against Delhi Capitals on April 18. His absence was a major setback for Bengaluru, considering the impact he had made at the top of the order before being sidelined.

The aggressive right-hander was among RCB’s standout performers this season and played a vital role in helping the team secure a top-two finish on the points table. Known for his fearless approach during the powerplay, Salt consistently provided rapid starts and put opposition bowlers under pressure from the very first over.

Ahead of the playoffs, Salt rejoined the RCB squad and was spotted participating in practice sessions on the eve of the Qualifier 1 clash. His return to training immediately sparked speculation about a possible comeback in the knockout stage.

Rajat Patidar gives update on Salt’s fitness

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Patidar confirmed that Salt has resumed cricketing activities but added that the medical staff is still monitoring his condition carefully. According to the RCB skipper, the management will take the final decision after assessing both the player’s fitness and the pitch conditions in Dharamsala.

“Salt is fit. He is under observation from the doctor. He has been participating in a few drills but we haven’t decided on our playing eleven yet. We will look at the wicket and decide,” Patidar said.

The update comes as a significant relief for RCB, especially after young England batter Jacob Bethell was ruled out due to injury. Bethell had stepped into the side during Salt’s absence and delivered useful contributions, but his unavailability has once again forced Bengaluru to rethink their combination.

English batter’s return could transform RCB’s playoff campaign

With a place in the IPL 2026 final on the line, Salt’s potential return could dramatically strengthen RCB’s batting unit. His attacking style complements the middle-order firepower and allows the side to dominate during the crucial powerplay overs. RCB head into the contest carrying strong momentum and confidence after a successful league campaign. A victory over Gujarat Titans would send them directly into the final and also provide valuable recovery time before the title clash. For a franchise defendig their IPL crown, the possible comeback of Salt may prove to be one of the biggest boosts at the perfect moment.
