Former India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has created a new buzz by featuring in an ad about a new TV show.

Currently, Sharma is playing for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 and has had moderate success. MI have been struggling in this tournament, and the door to the playoffs appears closed to them.

Since his debut in 2008, Rohit Sharma has gone viral on numerous occasions for his “TV personality” and witty quips not just on the stump mic, but also when talking to the media.

Rohit Sharma’s TV show set to air on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV

The ad was posted by both Sharma and the OTT platform Sony LIV on their social media handles. Currently, details about the show’s title or its format are unavailable.

Rohit Sharma hosting a TV show would be a first for an Indian cricketer hosting a major Hindi show, especially if it’s a game show. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has hosted a quiz show before, while 1983 World Cup winner Sandeep Patil hosted a show where he cooked for a variety of guests.

Recently, another OTT platform Zee5, unveiled a show titled “Cricket Darbaar” featuring former India batter Shikhar Dhawan as the host. That show includes Dhawan engaging with the live audience in a series of tasks alongside a celebrity guest.

Rohit Sharma in IPL 2026

As expected, Sharma had started the 2026 IPL season as a vital part of the Mumbai Indians, but an injury forced him to miss matches in between.

In total, he has played 5 of his team’s 10 matches in the tournament. During the fourth match, Rohit had sustained a toe injury, but he picked up a hamstring injury as well, delaying his return.

His five matches have yielded 221 runs at an average of over 55 and a strike rate of 174. He has made two fifties as well. In fact, both his fifties were scores over 75 that came in successful chases of targets of 220 or more.

Rohit Sharma’s current career and potential post-retirement

Although he is still continuing in the IPL, Rohit Sharma has retired from both Test cricket and T20Is. He is only playing ODIs right now with his sights set on the ODI World Cup in South Africa next year.

In October 2025, Sharma had been sacked as India’s ODI captain despite winning the Champions Trophy. He had retired from T20Is after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. Earlier that year, he had been sacked as Mumbai Indians captain despite leading the franchise to five IPL titles.

Since then, Rohit has served a few media engagements, acting as brand ambassador for both the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the Mumbai T20 league.

Mumbai Indians’ next match

MI will play defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore in an away game next. The match will be held on May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur.

Although MI are almost out of the playoffs race, they have an opportunity to play spoilsport as RCB have lost their last two matches. But, MI have already lost to RCB once this season.
