SEO vs WSF [WATCH]: Mark Chapman takes sensational hopping catch to dismiss Tim Seifert in MLC 2026

Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 continued to deliver high-scoring thrillers as Seattle Orcas pulled off a remarkable five-wicket victory over Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Chasing a daunting target of 217, the Orcas rode on a breathtaking innings from Tim Seifert and crossed the finish line with 14 balls to spare.

While Seifert dominated the headlines with another explosive knock, it was Washington Freedom batter Mark Chapman who produced one of the standout fielding moments of the tournament with an outstanding relay catch near the boundary ropes.

The stunning moment arrived on the final ball of the 11th over with Seattle firmly in control of the chase. Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a fuller ball on the pads and Seifert attempted another powerful heave towards deep mid-wicket. However, the New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter failed to get the desired connection and the ball travelled high towards Chapman stationed near the boundary. Realising his momentum would carry him beyond the ropes after completing the catch, Chapman displayed exceptional awareness and athleticism.

He initially grabbed the ball cleanly before flicking it back into the field of play just before stepping over the boundary cushions. Chapman then quickly re-entered the field and completed the catch safely, bringing an end to Seifert’s destructive innings. The spectacular effort immediately caught the attention of players and commentators alike, with many praising Chapman’s composure and presence of mind under pressure. Seifert eventually departed for a magnificent 78 off just 33 deliveries, an innings decorated with seven fours and six towering sixes.

Seattle Orcas complete a stunning chase against Washington Freedom

Earlier in the evening, Washington Freedom piled up an imposing 216 after being asked to bat. Mitchell Owen provided a flying start with 61 off 25 balls before Chapman and Andries Gous kept the momentum going through the middle overs. Chapman smashed 57 from only 24 deliveries, while Gous added a brisk 35. At one stage, Freedom appeared set for a total well beyond 240 before Ottneil Baartman’s brilliant spell turned the innings around. The South African pacer struck crucial blows in the death overs and finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 33.

Despite Freedom’s strong total, Seattle responded aggressively from the outset. Seifert and Matthew Breetzke dismantled the bowling attack with an 89-run partnership off just 46 balls after the early dismissal of Shayan Jahangir. Breetzke played a superb supporting role with 66 off 36 deliveries, ensuring the required run rate never became an issue.

Although Freedom managed a brief comeback by removing Seifert, Breetzke and a couple of middle-order batters in quick succession, Dasun Shanaka slammed an unbeaten 36 off just 12 balls to seal the chase in emphatic fashion. The victory marked another successful chase in the early stages of MLC 2026 and underlined Seattle Orcas’ batting firepower as they continued their impressive start to the tournament.
