Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripts history; becomes youngest-ever Orange Cap winner in IPL

The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been exciting to watch the new talents, and also the experienced campaigners step up big for their side. Among them, one of the names that rocked the cricketing fraternity was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the boy wonder, who has broken several records in IPL this season, and now has taken another record into his account.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was the leading run scorer and was on top of the Orange Cap list, will remain on top after Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan fell early in the final of the IPL, between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Gill needed 55 runs but was out on 10, and Sai fell for 12.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks another record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, after the GT openers departed early, became the youngest Orange Cap winner of the IPL at the age of 15. The Southpaw has had a sensational season for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and carried the team on his shoulders in most of the games, delivering match-winning performances across this edition of the league.

Vaibhav has scored 776 runs in this edition of the league, with an average of 48.50 and scoring five half-centuries and one hundred. He was dismissed three times in his 90s, with scores of 93, 97, and 96, respectively. He had a strike rate of 237.30. The 15-year-old wonder boy took over the best of bowlers in this IPL, smashing them with a first-ball six.

Full Records Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke this season

In the game against the Orange Army, he nearly broke the record for the fastest hundred as he scored 97 off 29 deliveries. During that game, he became the first uncapped batter to score the most runs and also 600+ runs in a single edition with a strike rate over 200. He, in the same game, became the first Indian batter to hit the most sixes in an IPL innings, with 12.

He also became the batter to smash the joint-most number of 10+ sixes in an innings, joining hands with the Universe Boss Chris Gayle. Vaibhav broke the record of the West Indies legend of hitting the most sixes in an IPL season, Gayle had smacked 59, with the former surpassing 72 sixes this season of the tournament.
