The family members of Veedhi Naveen Kumar, 26, staged a protest at Dharna Chowk here on Friday, alleging that he ended his life due to custodial torture at Adiveedu police station in West Godavari district.
They demanded a thorough probe into the alleged custodial torture. The Akiveedu police summoned Naveen Kumar in a family dispute case filed by his wife, and allegedly beat him up severely. The victim consumed poison on May 11, and died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital the next day, the family members alleged.
West Godavari police did not respond to the queries seeking clarification on the case. People in distress can ‘Dial 100’ for assistance.
