The Jagadgirigutta police of Cyberabad have solved five cases in two days, recovering 3.5 tolas of gold, ₹9 lakh allegedly obtained through fraud and four batteries worth about ₹10 lakh, besides other stolen property.
In one of the cases, police arrested Kamineddi Shiva Mohan Reddy, a native of Akkapalli village in the Markapuram area of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly cheating a woman of about ₹9 lakh and 3.5 tolas of gold.
According to police, the accused had earlier served as a constable in the Sashastra Seema Bal for about 12 years but was dismissed from service for misconduct while on duty. Police said that after his dismissal, he continued online betting and allegedly cheated people after gaining their trust. He had previously been imprisoned in similar fraud cases, according to police records.
In the present case, he allegedly contacted the victim over the phone and developed a close relationship with her before seeking money on various pretexts, including medical treatment for himself and his family members. He allegedly collected about ₹9 lakh from her on different occasions and also took 3.5 tolas of gold, which he pledged at Canara Bank in Kambham.
Police said similar fraud cases had earlier been registered against him in the Markapuram and Giddalur areas. He was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
In another case, police arrested Garikapati Venkatesh in connection with a series of night-time burglaries in Asbestos Colony over the past 15 days. Police said he allegedly broke into three houses and stole a mobile phone from one, silver articles from another, and 3 grams of gold and ₹60,000 in cash from a third. The mobile phone and gold were recovered from him.
Police also arrested Thota Guruvappa, an employee at an EV charging station, for allegedly stealing four batteries from the facility on August 15. Each battery was valued at about ₹2.5 lakh, taking the total value of the stolen batteries to around ₹10 lakh.
According to police, Guruvappa sold the batteries at a scrap shop and travelled to his hometown, Giddalur in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, with the proceeds. A special team traced him to Giddalur and arrested him, recovering all four batteries.
