Shubman Gill hails Gujarat Titans bowlers after win over RCB in IPL 2026 clash

Shubman Gill played a dominant hand with the bat and handed the Gujarat Titans the early momentum in their batting innings as the skipper seemed on a mission while chasing a comparatively smaller total.

The Gujarat Titans have been led by Shubman Gill since 2024 after Hardik Pandya left the side to return to his former franchise, the Mumbai Indians. The batter did not have a good season, as the two-time finalists since their debut, the Gujarat Titans, missed out on a playoff spot under Gill’s captaincy in 2024.

However, they bounced back in 2025, marching their way into the Eliminator before being handed an exit by the former skipper Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians. This season as well, Gill looks to solidify his place in the Indian T20I XI with a set of impressive outings in the IPL.

Shubman Gill backed his bowlers to fire back against the RCB batters in the powerplay

The Gujarat Titans bowlers have not had the most productive start to their innings; however, ever since Kagiso Rabada has picked form, there have been wickets in the powerplay.

Mohammed Siraj was handed his third over due to his economical start in the powerplay; however, Gill made a daring move to back Rabada for a second over from the same end against Virat Kohli in the powerplay. The veteran pacer did not disappoint on this occasion, taking Kohli off with a surprising bumper.

He next backed Arshad Khan with repetitive overs from one end, who was the highest wicket-taker for the Gujarat Titans after being backed by some spectacular bit of fielding, from the likes of Jason Holder and Sai Sudharsan.

Rajat Patidar to Jos Buttler, everyone praises Shubman Gill for his match-winning knock

From the opposition skipper Rajat Patidar to his batting partner Jos Buttler, everyone on that field has been praising Shubman Gill for his flawless start to the GT innings on such a tricky surface against two of the deadliest bowlers in the powerplay in this edition of the IPL.

Shubman got GT off to a flyer as he targeted to take down the RCB bowlers right from the very first over of the game, when he opened his stride against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in some style after getting lucky on the first ball.

Gill did not stop there and took 24 runs off Josh Hazlewood’s first in the game, even surpassing Virat Kohli’s 21-run second over against Kagiso Rabada. The momentum did not die even after his dismissal as Jos Buttler kept adding runs from the other end.

Today the energy was quite high- Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill credited his GT boys for their stupendous efforts on the field. He said, “Feels very satisfying. On a wicket to restrict a team like them to 155 is very nice. At times we haven’t fielded as well, but today the energy was quite high after the 2nd over.”

“I was just feeling I was in the zone. First ball, I got a bit lucky, and then I thought today was my day. I was confident of taking the bowling on,” Gill said about his own batting.

“He is a very important player for us. That was one of the conversations we had in the timeout. He got some nice runs, and everyone got a hit in the middle,” he heaped praises on Rahul Tewatiya, citing his importance in that GT XI.
