The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police on Thursday apprehended Hemant Nagindas Purshottamdas Modi, a 54-year-old professional actor who had jumped parole back in 2014 and had been a fugitive from justice ever since.
The Crime Branch said that they had located Hemant Modi at a residence near the Gheekanta Metro Station in Ahmedabad.
During the time that Modi ran from the law, he was pursuing an acting career that saw him star in Bollywood films alongside the biggest names in Hindi cinema, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh, among others.

On August 27, 2008, Hemant Modi, his brother Sachin, and five others were convicted of the murder of one Narendra alias Nano Yashwant Kamble. The murder took place on June 15, 2005.
The trial court sentenced them to life imprisonment. Hemant Modi was incarcerated as prisoner number 31146 at Mehsana Jail.
Six years into his sentence, on July 25, 2014, Hemant Modi received 30 days’ parole from the Gujarat High Court. He walked out of Mehsana Jail – never to return. He has been on the run ever since.
Police said that after jumping parole, Hemant Modi lived in Patan district for a year, until 2015. He then assumed an alias, changing his name to Twinkle Mukund Dave, and moved to Ahmedabad where he lived as a paying guest and worked in a private company.
He then slowly made his way into the theatre scene. And by 2017, he had reached Mumbai, and started landing himself roles as supporting actor in Bollywood. In 2025, however, he returned to live in Ahmedabad.

Police said Hemant Modi had starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan in Yash Raj Films’ ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ in 2018, alongside Ranveer Singh and Boman Irani in ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ in 2022, alongside Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan in ‘Metro in Dino’ in 2025, alongside Sunny Deol in the upcoming film ‘Lahore 1947’, and the yet to be released film ‘Tu Hai Meri Kiran’ starring Sonakshi Sinha. He also worked in the Mohanlal starrer ‘L2: Empuraan’.
The police said Hemant Modi’s career also spanned 20 Gujarati films, the web series ‘Taskari’ starring Emraan Hashmi, two Hindi and four Gujarati serials, and 17 Gujarati plays including ‘Yugpurush’ and ‘Gandhi Viruddh Godse’.
Despite his public-facing career in films, web series, and serials, he successfully evaded authorities until this recent detection by the Crime Branch.
